We felt so good at Beewan that we stayed another night. Although the hotel is cheap, you get a lot of advantages: a kitchen where to cook, free wifi and breakfast, nice cats :-). The owner like meeting new people and is very friendly, offering us korean cakes and sweets. We felt like at home!

Everything you need for a budget is in here. It is clean. Near a subway and bus station. It is quite peaceful outside. Though i guess youd have a hard time finding it. But still it is safe even going out at night and going back to the hostel. The wifi is not that fast but still okay, password will... More

Friendly staff, clean room, nice breakfast as wasn't expecting some ahjooma to cook korean rice cake for us as breakfast. Feel like in a korean home indeed. One drawback was that we booked for two double room but only given one double room and another double bunk bed. They should have reserved both double room for us.

Excellent place, with very friendly staff. After 12 years of service, the owner still can't speak basic English. Nevertheless, she is very friendly and can make herself understandable in funny ways. Speaking with the rest of the staff is quite easy and everybody wants to make your stay in Korea as comfortable as possible. The hostel offers air dryer, strong... More

The hotel rooms are clean. Neighborhood is quiet with a convenience store near the place. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Location is good. There are many places of interest which is near like the Changdeokgung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace and Insadong. Myeongdong and Dongdaemun are a subway ride away. All rooms have wifi including the common areas.

We arrived in Seoul for our 4 last days (of 3 weeks) in Korea. Day after arrival I experienced a medical emergency which put me in the hospital for 4 weeks. All that time the folks at Beewon were super supportive of my wife accepting/making changes in O.N. accommodations last minute and seeing to it that she had a place... More

For those travelling on tight budget, Beewon Guesthouse is the best choice for its room rates and good facilities (hair dryer, small ref, strong wifi even in bedroom, free use of washing machine with free powder, water dispenser in every floor, free use of kitchen, bathroom and bedroom slippers). Agnes and Yong, the staff were very friendly and helpful in... More

Beewon Guesthouse has a lot of pros and few cons. Let me list them down in bullets: PROS: > Breakfast is part of the package. If you're not picky and you're okay with bread and jam (which is, btw, delicious), then this is a good place. You can eat at the kitchen/dining area and can cook your own food, too,... More

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighborhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighborhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighborhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the center of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
