This place is just ok. The people are friendly and your money goes to support good causes, so those are definitely pluses. The rooms, however, are not very clean or nice at all, and if you are in the cheapest rooms the shared bathrooms are pretty terrible. In fact, some of the rooms with private bathrooms are also pretty terrible.... More

This place has very old world charm. Ever watch a movie set in the past, 40s, 50s, 60s, and think to yourself, I wonder what it was like to live back then? Well, at least at this YMCA, you get to experience that. Of course, since the building seems to be exactly the same as when the British left it... More

We chose YMCA because it was reasonably priced and some of the money went to projects in Myanmar, and none to the Govt. It is in a quieter area, a poorer area, and well located to walk to most places in the city centre. There is 24hr reception, lift and porters willing to assist you any time, they were very... More

YMCA is probably a great buy for Yangon where hotels and Guest Houses are in very short supply. I paid $20 for a very large single room with bath and a small breakfast. It had A/C (a must in Yangon) lots of hot water. The room had seen better days but it was clean with no sign of any bugs... More

Well, the YMCA has a bit of a love-hate relationship among expats. It's sort of got an SRO aesthetic going. It is dirty but no bedbugs or rodents (cockroaches, yes, but you can't win them all). In a town where the rooms are all overpriced and anything decently priced is considerably lacking in hygiene (and finding an apartment takes forever),... More

Staying here may mean that none (or very little) of your rent goes to the government. But I'm sure the same goes for most family-run guesthouses in Yangon, which offer better value, and more importantly, a higher standard of hygiene and service. We booked a double room via email, but when we arrived at 4:30am, we were told that all... More

At first glance the building seems a bit run down and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Mahabandoola Road, but it is a short walk away from the Sule Pagoda. Stayed in the double room with air conditioning (602). There were 2 individual beds with sheets, face and body towels included. They also provide a box of tissue... More

I stayed here one night in July 2012. Paid 20 usd for the room with A/C. The rooms are very average and comparable to what you get for the 20 usd range in Yangon. They do not speak English, so you have to use sign language and point around quite a bit till they get what you are saying. Location... More

The biggest plus of this place for us was that we knew our money was not going to the government, as with many other hotels and guesthouses in Yangon. In fact, as advertised around the centre, if you spend your money here it helps the local community. The centre does't feel like a hotel at all, which we loved. There... More

Lived in the Yangon YMCA for 10 weeks. You won't meet nicer people. Seriously, the staff is kind and helpful. There's a generator for the frequent power-outages; the breakfasts are consistent; the rooms are clean; the bathrooms don't inspire long, leisurely showers, but they are scrubbed, if damp. For seven dollars a night (and some folks paid less) it was... More
