We began our 3-week trip around Myanmar at this exceptional hotel and were greatly surprised as we had been warned that Myanmar (Burmese) hotels were not quite up to other top class Asian hotels. Not so for The Governor's Residence (an Orient Express Hotel). The staff, overall ambience, food, gardens and our superb room were every bit as good as... More

I wish I could stay longer but in the one evening/night I had at the hotel I met the head chef, a very friendly/helpful/informative staff member, and the manager. Beyond being friendly, they explained all of the extra free activities they offer. We were currently enjoying their complimentary cocktail hour with local wines and sangria, they said they do locals... More

Lovely short stay Hotel. We chose Burma to kick start our 25 night tour of Burma and Vietnam. The Burmese people are just so welcoming and friendly. We stayed 3 nights at this delightful hotel. The food was excellent . Drinks a bit pricey but still not as expensive as our hotels in England. We had a curry buffet on... More

This is a lovely hotel, characterful and charming. Everything about it is superb.. The staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. Even finding me extra lamps when I said my room was too dark. Me being stupid and not finding the light switches!!!, th service is excellent, the food superb I cannot fault this hotel in any way, tragically... More

I really enjoyed my stay, ,Basking in the deep soul and unique ambience of the residence , from taking breakfast whilst watching the peacocks wandering the lawn , through to eating the exquisite food at dinner.

I've travelled a fair amount in Asia over the past 25 years and stayed in many 5 star hotels as well as being an owner of one. But I have to say this hotel takes many aspects of the legendary asian service to a new level. In short nothing was too much trouble and every aspect of performance and delivery... More

We had chosen to make an almost complete tour of Myanmar, taking the RTM and, two days later, the Orcaella. We had three separate stays at the Governors Residence and we were treated as old friends on the second and third stay. Lovely and very comfortable accommodation and very friendly service. THe best in Myanmar. r

The Governor's Residence was a wonderful place to stay and our first introduction to Myanmar. A calm oasis amongst as busy city, and we enjoyed being in a more residential part of the city. The staff called us by our name which was very impressive, they were charming. The room was good, bed lovely and comfortable, and plenty of choice... More

Located in the embassy district this is a haven of serenity in a gritty city just finding itself under the new open policy of the government. The hotel is surrounded by lush landscape and every aspect of the facility shows an attention to detail. The rooms are spacious (not large) and offer all the usual amenities. The service is attentive... More

The governor's residence in Yangon is an oasis of peace in the middle of a city which is about to become like any other Southeast Asian, with hectic traffic, lots of pollution and lack of charm.... The rooms are nicely decorated although one of them had a creaky parquet. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable, easier the best we... More
