Very nice, classic hotel with huge rooms and separate seating area. Butlerservice and breakfast is a la carte! The hotel could use some more decoration to enhance the performance it is worth. Get rid of the potted trees in front of the entrance outside and replace with palm trees, also on the roof of the entrance. Very attentive, helpful and... More

There will be times in Myanmar when a good toilet and good lunch are required. Yes, you may be mildly ill in Myanmar from a naughty belly. Do not despair. The Strand has fairly priced very good food in atmospheric surrounds and excellent loos. Try eating lunch with a mild bout of the squirts and no loo. Go on, try... More

The other luxury hotels are far from the center of town preventing a visitor from easily walking around the grungy but fascinating downtown of Yangon with its colonial buildings, its open markets, and its sites. This is old colonial grandeur that is, fortunately, not over the top or vulgar and that maintains a genteel calm. Not everything is perfect. Breakfast... More

One of the main reasons you incorporate Yangon into a travel itinerary is 1) it's a convenient base from which to fly in and out of, and 2) to explore Yangon's impressive and partially preserved colonial past. With this in mind, a stay at the historic Strand Hotel is a must. Whilst the hotel has benefitted from a few upgrades... More

Historic 5 star colonial hotel in Yangon. Small number of rooms, happy hour every Friday where cocktails are half price - Strand Sling (their take on Singapore Sling) is delicious. Free nibbles usually provided on Friday for the after work crowd. Bar can be very quiet during the week. Nice gift shop, a bit pricey but very good quality.

We spend three nights at the hotel. Excellent is the word to describe the hotel. It is a small hotel with all the amenities you may look for. Old building from 1901 very well preserved give you a nice atmosphere. All wood in a beautiful colonial style. Rooms enormous and very well maintained. If anything (and that is something for... If you have a penchant for colonial charm and taste, look no further than The Strand. It is indeed like stepping back in time. It is not very crowded nor busy, just beautiful and elegant. The room was spacious and well stacked bathroom. There were also lowers, candy, and fruit in the room. Staff very knowledgeable and accommodating. One reason... More

Although this is a Sarkie Brothers hotel it's not as good as Raffles Singapore. It certainly has plenty class but it's let down by it's location. It is right on a main road almost opposite the docks and although we had a room to the side it was very noisy even at night. The food in the main restaurant was... More
