I stay at this hotel while on business and it’s quaint and charming enough. It is colonial for sure which means it’s quiet and a tad boring, old people will probably like it more than me. I miss the fact there is no gym or pool. That said what it does provide is nicely done, large rooms and the staff... More

I should preface my review by saying that I am not normally a fan of old style hotels. I prefer sleek, modern and cheap - none of which describe The Strand. However, like the Burmese people, there is a kind of infectious charm to The Strand that overcomes your resistance. On the plus side: the hotel itself still maintains its... More

We originally wanted to stay at The Strand because its reputation as a luxurious old colonial hotel where Orwell and Kipling stayed and it didn’t disappoint. The hotel is beautiful. Our room was large and well-decorated – a big comfortable bed, large clean bathroom, and nice seating area. Each floor has its own butler who will bring you tea, food,... More

Victorian-style, classic, famous and well-run hotel. Once established by the Sarkies Brothers who owned the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, authors like Geroge Orwell, Rudyard Kipling and Somerset Maugham stayed before. I highly recommend everybody visiting Yangon to stay for a night in this historially important building for a taste of British Colonial, old-days atmosphere. Excellent breakfast in delicate Strand Cafe... More

What a disappointment! After the Raffles in Singspore and Siem Reap, The Oriental in Bangkok and the Eastern & Oriental on Penang The Strand was still missing on my personal list of Grand Hotels in the Far East from colonial times. I was really disappointed: the rooms and the entire hotel look very tired, the Cafe restaurant is really not... More

Fantastic wifi, incredible food at all hours of the day, staff went so far out of their way to meet all our wishes. Beautiful colonial style, service is the best I've ever experienced - butler slice adds a personal touch. Stayed a couple of nights, went back for another over a month later and every single member of staff remembered... More

This is a must see place. I first stayed here in 1998 and its was pretty much a derelict but what charm it had. Its now of course all very swanky and swish but it retains the old colonial charm, its a beautiful structure and has been lovingly and carefully refurbished. The staff are quite wonderful even in a country... More

Had a dinner and a lunch in this splendid colonial hotel. Superb menu, wines and service in both cafe and restaurant . I tried a typical Burmese chicken and coconut soup in the cafe and a divine beetroot risotto in the restaurant. We had a very warm welcome from the highly attentive staff. The setting makes it a good base... More

This hotel is a must see place in Yangon according to few guides. We went for afternoon tea, the staff was really friendly and nice as in any place inn Yangon we went, food was good, exactly what you get in nice 5* hotel in Asia. However the place felt empty and without any special charm. We stayed at Savoy... More

A classic British Colonial building, the Strand is impressive. We stayed for 3 nights in a Superior Suite which included breakfast and free WiFi. The room was spacious with magnificent high ceilings and the WiFi excellent. We also had butler service and all the staff were friendly & helpful with good English. The food is of a high standard with... More
