I stayed at the Strand with my wife and a couple of friends and we were loathe to leave after four nights. It had the perfect combination of old world charm and fabulous service and above all, a level of authenticity that is sadly lacking in many "historical hotels" today. I've stayed at Le Royal and the Grand in Cambodia... more

Large bright rooms, very high ceilings, good attention to detail, good food (breakfast included) and charming staff. Contrary to some comments, location is fine as the city is compact with no major traffic issues (and, by official decree, amazingly no motorbikes or scooters). The airport is brand new and arrival/departure procedures are well organised (including remote body temperature scanners to... more

We did not stay in the Strand Hotel, but decided to visit it for drinks in the bar. The Strand Hotel is a 3 storey Victorian hotel built in 1901 by the famous Sarkie brothers, who of course, are best known for the Raffles Hotel, Singapore. The hotel with its marble flooring, rattan furniture and ceiling fans transports you back... more

Stayed in Yangon for three nights over a 10 day period, each night in a different hotel. The other business hotels in Yangon are fine & expensive, but nothing special. The Strand, however, is special. It is the only place that I'd recommend to any visitor on a business budget in Yangon, period. Service reminiscent of the 1950'ies, the hotel... more

Our experience in the Strand was simply fantastic from start to finish. If you arrange for a car from the airport, they will hire a former Customs official to ensure you have not issues when entering the country. I believe they are the only hotel to do this. The hotel is pure colonial class and the staff is efficient and... more

The main reason people stay at this hotel is because of its service and history. Being the oldest hotel in Yangon, it has a reputation to protect and it certainly does with its personal service. As others have said, it is an all-suite hotel albeit the deluxe suite is more like a large room in other hotels. The business centre... more

This beautifully crafted all suite hotel was opened in 1901 by the Sarkies brothers when the city was then called Rangoon and was occupied by the british. The hotel was one of the grandest hotel in the far east and was by far the best in Rangoon. Now it still is and it has still got it's colonial style just... more

We stayed there for just one night as we were passing through Yangon. The place drips with history. Our room was great. Bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom were all huge. You will be overwhelmed by the amount of staff they have. You have your own personal butler. Breakfast was included in our room and it was great. The hotel is... more
