The main reason people stay at this hotel is because of its service and history. Being the oldest hotel in Yangon, it has a reputation to protect and it certainly does with its personal service. As others have said, it is an all-suite hotel albeit the deluxe suite is more like a large room in other hotels. The business centre... more

This beautifully crafted all suite hotel was opened in 1901 by the Sarkies brothers when the city was then called Rangoon and was occupied by the british. The hotel was one of the grandest hotel in the far east and was by far the best in Rangoon. Now it still is and it has still got it's colonial style just... more

We stayed there for just one night as we were passing through Yangon. The place drips with history. Our room was great. Bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom were all huge. You will be overwhelmed by the amount of staff they have. You have your own personal butler. Breakfast was included in our room and it was great. The hotel is... more

I stayed in a "Deluxe Suite" in this all-suite hotel. However the "suites" are not actually suites. The Deluxe Suite is one very large room with a sitting area (sofa, armchair and coffee table) and a large desk. The room is comfortably furnished and everything is spic and span. The bed is very comfortable. The central HVAC is silent. The... more

When in Yangon it is the place to stay. It is an experience and is truely colonial. It is an amazing building and the service is fantastic. Breakfast is good too. Don't bother eating an evening meal there. Very very expensive and not that good at all. The airport pick up is good - they meet you at customs and... more

This hotel was simply gorgeous. Our room was at the front of the building with a door leading out to the shared "balcony" (for lack of a better word). It was beautifully furnished, every piece of furniture was stunning to look at. The only thing we found slightly frustrating was that the staff were so attentive we couldn't leave the... more

When I first visited Yangon 3 years ago, I stayed away from the Strand because of the high rates. However, this time, they were offering reduced off-season rates (after April) with a deluxe room at US$185/night, so I decided to go ahead and spend 2 nights there. It was well worth it. The property is beautifuly restored and the service... more

This is a beautifully restored colonial building in downtown Yangon. It is very central, next door to the Australian and UK embassies and the central Post Office. Service is excellent, the rooms are large and of a very high standard, and the restaurants very good. However, there is no garden to relax in, nor a swimming pool. And rooms ate... more
