The location of East Hotel looks good in daytime, in walking distance from Chinatown and the market of Bogyoke ...in daytime...At night the hotel is in the centre of large gatherings of boardwalk-beggars, homeless people with alcohol-addictions and you won't be too surprised to spot some 'roaches and rats in the gutters before the door The crossroad is very gruesome... We arrived in Yangon a couple days ahead of the start of our birdwatching tour to see some sights other than birds. Our ground agent reserved this hotel and, when we pointed to TripAdvisor reviews objecting to very small rooms, got us a bigger room - at a higher price. We had room 2002 in the next-door annex, up a... More

Nothing spectacular from the East hotel but also little to fault if taken in context - a city with next to no hotel supply, especially in the budget sector. Location is superb, directly opposite Shangri-la hotel. The one lift is not great if you are on a higher floor and the wifi incredibly slow (best to wonder across the road... More

Excellent hotel, right in the heart of Yangon. You can walk out of the door and be straight in to the hustle and bustle of the street life of Yangon. I spent two nights at the hotel. They serve a excellent breakfast omelette and also cereals and fresh plenty of fresh fruit. Meals are reasonably priced and of good quality.... More

Clean basic rooms. I stayed here 3 times during my trip for a night. Convenient downtown location. I stayed in the annex and it was very clean and had hot water. If you don't mind the street noise, 204 and 304 were both a bit bigger and nicer rooms in the annex.

Modern hotel, very central location across the street from the Shangri-La. Walking distance from Yangon's historical center. No charm but functional. No hot water in sink. Quite pricey but that's the norm in Yangon.

Spent two nights at different ends of our holiday - first night in the annex, great room. Large, clean and ace bathroom. Second night - huge difference and not in a positive way! Room much smaller with the shower in the room - yes, really in the room and the toilet separated from the room by a small saloon style... More

Stayed for 4 nights at start of our month stay in Myanmar and then 1 night before flying home. Rooms rather small and basic, but staff pleasant and breakfast good. By Myanmar standards Wifi works ok in restaurant and in some rooms depending on what floor you are on. Good location - great for eating in the Indian quarter and... More

We had a one night stay here the last night of our 11 day Myanmar tour. Got in late, 8:05 pm and wanted to have dinner in the hotel. Restaurant was closed off for a private event. There's nowhere decent close by to eat. Room was the smallest one we had in the whole country. There is no storage room... More

The room was not clean and was very poor quality with dirty walls and a shower which didnt work very well. The hotel is in need of alot modernisation. On the other hand, the location is very good. I would reccomend staying in the opposite hotel, the sule.
