The Capitana restaurant is well known throughout Honiara for its excellent Wednesday evening buffets. Booking is a must as it is booked -out every week. The selection of food is excellent and quality and quantity first class. Make sure you arrive by seven to get the best choice of food. Other evenings there is a good selection of bistro style... The Mendana in Honiara is an old hotel, partially refurbished. The hotel foyer is pleasant and welcoming, but belies the hidden perils! Much of the Mendan has been refurbished, leaving the site a prefect example of the sublime and the ridiculous. The refurbished rooms are very well appointed and comfortable - this is the west wing. The un-refurbished rooms leave... More

Unfortunately I would not recommend this hotel to others. The service is terrible, ask for anything and you'll get told "no". The reception staff really don't care. For e.g. at check out we had an issue with our bill and the receptionist rudely stood there tapping her nails on the counter whilst we calculated the correct bill. The paid internet... More

Due to lack of availability, I stayed in a garden view room. The units are truly showing their age. The refrigerator will shake every few minutes. The aircon cannot fully make the room cool during hot days. This is slightly compensated by the very good breakfast buffet. You can get fresh coconut juice in a shell, a good selection of... More

Stayed here for 10 days for work and it was fine. The Japanese restaurant was very good and did a great bento box with good sashimi. Centrally located between the two best cafes in town (breakwater and lime lounge). Can get noisy if you are in a room at the yacht club end on weekends (real bad cover bands playing... More

Stayed in the executive rooms for 2 weeks they are a far better option then the other rooms though rather expensive. Staff are as always helpful, the Captain restaurant food is still not up to standard for the cost of meals

The renovated Rooms in the East Wing - sea view are quite nice. Much nicer than the other sea view rooms - however because the staff always leave the door open when they are servicing the rooms - you will always have mozzies in your room. If you can afford the executive rooms they have the best view and are... More

The staff are very helpful, always polite. Breakfast is good and staff are always attentive. I stayed on the west side next to the breakwater cafe for 1st 6 weeks, the poo truck comes most evening to extract waste from the cafe. Smell occasionally waffles to some of the rooms. The rooms are old and the bed slides on the... More

Stayed at the hotel on the suggestion of my boss, overall I had a comfortable stay at the Solomon Kitano Mendana hotel but I have stayed in better in Honiara. I stayed on "West Wing" witht the Garden View/parking lot. The rooms were big however the bed linen and blankets needed to be changed (i.e.) new ones. I saw cockroaches... More

Staying for work at the Solomons Kitano for eight nights. I'm in the east wing, and while I have Internet, the 7-day package is SBD $900 / US $120. It's 10PM on a Sunday night and the dance music from the club next door is vibrating things in the room. The smell of mildew and bug spray in the room... More
