Rabaul Hotel (previously the Hamamas Hotel) is situated 45 kms from Tokua Airport, 3 klms from the erupting Tavuruvur Volcano, Matupit Island & Hot Springs and a stones throw from the International Port of Rabaul, on beautiful Simpson Harbour. Rabaul Hotel, on famous Mango Avenue, is the longest established Hotel in the New Guinea Islands region. Witnessing post WWII reconstruction, Papua New Guinea's Independence, and surviving earthquakes and the Twin Volcanic Eruption of 1994, it really is the "Spirit of Volcano Town"! A must see for the adventurer, scuba diver or trekker, Rabaul Hotel is so close to the Volcano, you can smell it! Rabaul Town, which was described in its halcyon days as the "Pearl of the Pacific", is now the "Pompeii of the Pacific", due to the surreal surrounds of a Town almost destroyed by Tavurvur Volcano. Rabaul Hotel is committed to promoting eco-tours by involving the locals. Don't expect plush tour coaches or groomed tour guides! The Hotel will organise "When in Rome" Tours in cooperation with the locals, who are enthusiastic & have intimate knowledge of their surrounds. For a reasonable fee paid direct to the guide or skipper, the Hotel will organise a trek to the top of Kabui Mountain (Mt. Mother - 2000 feet), Canoe trips or walk to Mt. Tavurvur Volcano, with visits to the Mega-pode Farm & Hot Springs along the way. Rabaul Hotel will also organise scuba diving or snorkeling or fishing trips. The Hotel Restaurant, "Phoenix Room", boasts an extensive Western & Asian Menu, catering to all tastes including many vegetarian options. All rooms are air conditioned with en-suite. The swimming pool is easily accessible & the Hotel Lounge Bar, with a giant billiards table, is always fully stocked ready for the 'apres adventures' de-brief, back at the hotel. If you are visiting Papua New Guinea, make sure you set aside a few days to visit one of the most amazing places in the South Pacific - Rabaul, & the RABAUL HOTEL - "WHERE THE ROAD ENDS & THE ADVENTURE BEGINS."
