I selected the Cara Suites, Georgetown, Guyana, based solely on TripAdvisor recommendations. It was my last stop on a 17 nation two-week, solo-traveler, non-stop “island hopping” trip. I found the hotel to be a delightful British Colonial era style property with a moderate-sized restaurant serving extremely good food and wine. I was at the Cara Suites for 10 days in February 2006 and had a very comfortable stay. Guyanese hotels are generally not up to international standards in terms of service or amenities, so Cara Suites came as a pleasant surprise in that it provided most of the amenities of an international hotel including cable TV, minibar, free newspaper delivery,... more
