This hotel is ok if you are after a budget option in a good location but the service is certainly not what Lonely Planet makes it out to be. We asked for a few tips and received one line answers only and nothing extra. Rooms are very basic, I would even go so far as to say verging on the... more

It's a 10-minute walk from the Old City, which is good, and right next to the train station intersection where you can find an ATM. However, for $55 (as of May, 2009), I found it overpriced. The room was average for the Middle East with double beds and good-enough bathroom. I was surprised to find a cockroach on my foot... more

The reason to stay at Sultan Hotel is for their helpful assistance and front desk services. I arrived in Damascus in the early evening and within about thirty minutes they had set me up with a rental car beginning that very day, with full insurance, for about 50 USD a day. The front desk staff speaks very good English and... more

Of all the hotels visited in Syria, Sultan gave the best value for money and unsurpassed service when it came to travel arrangements and any difficulties that might occur. English speaking staff is fully dedicated to help you with anything you might need, free of charge. Travel tours and taxi rides arranged by Sultan are fairly priced. Okay, the rooms... more

Hotel Sultan is fairl basic, but is good value and serves as an ideal base to explore Damascus. The front desk is multilingual, very well informed, and very helpful. The rooms are clean, some with aircon, and safe. The hotel is well located as well, only 5 - 10 mins walk to the old town. This hotel will never set... more

We stayed twice in May in a triple room. Rooms/bathrooms were small but clean. The location is great - easy walk to the souk. The staff were incredibly helpful, they even came with me to help me find a shop which sold sim cards, and made sure that I was charged correctly. I would recommend this hotel for independant travellers,... more

This place is just perfect for a budget traveller...centrally located and the room was clean with hot shower and the price was just unbelievable ($24/day). Their staff was friendly and arranged my transportation needs everyday. I recommend the Sultan to anyone who would visit Damascus. AA Los Angeles, CA more

Syrian friends advised only 4 and 5 star hotels but an international summit meant that my wife and teenage daughters had to opt for this charming but basic hotel. All favourable reviews we had read were spot-on. We felt safe and secure at all times with a unique CCTV monitored lift entry system. Sincere, friendly and up-to-date advice was readily... more

"Concierge" The front desk is incredibly helpful in setting up day travels for you. I was able to arrange a private car for the day out to Krak de Chevaliers and also to arrange "taxi" service to Baalbek , Lebanon for the day. The hotel is centrally located so you can easily walk to most everywhere you'll want to go... more
