We were nothing short of mortified by this hotel. It's a 1 start facility similar to what is known as a MOTEL in the USA. There was NO heat, holes in the walls and windows, very loud hallways, and aesthetically a dump. The internet hardly worked and that too only in parts of the lobby. The breakfast was weak too,... As a former Lonely Planet author and Los Angeles Times staff writer, I have nights in more than 1,000 hotels. The Metropole was the worst of the bunch--even worse than those rooms in Mexico, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic that set me back only $20 a night. I initially stayed in room 403 (so filthy my GF insisted we... More

Overall good for the price. I think the location actually makes me recommend it. It is at 'a stone's throw' of Damascus gate. The staff is very friendly and keen to help. The room were clean, although the air conditioner was quite slow.

I stayed with my mother and a baby, the lady of the reception was very helpful, she organised the taxi to the airport, an took great care of us with free coffe and even cereal for my baby. Thanks very much. I highly recommend this hotel.

From the moment my cab driver dropped me off at the top of the road because traffic was too bad down the road I was up to my neck in the good, the bad and the straight up Middle East. I flew solo on this trip and was very glad my wife didn't join me as she likes her hotels... More

Apologies to the readers for my spelling mistakes in my last reviews ( "Jerusalem, what it was and what it is" is one of them...sigh... there is no laptop here but there is no blaming the devil either for one's rush at those internet cafes nor for this one's not always clear eyesight... That said, essentially, the review stands on... More

Excellent location one minute's walk from Herod's Gate. Very friendly & helpful service. The down side, however, was the fact that we weren't convinced of the cleanliness of the bedding. Both of us woke up covered in bites...not mosquitoes as it was on areas of our body covered by sheets. Bed bugs I'm afraid.

I am a regular visitor to Jerusalem. For the past few years I have stayed only there - on my own or with groups. Although it is not 5 star, you have everything for a comfortable stay and more. The staff are friendly, food is tasty, rooms are cosy and the location is excellent - within a short walking distance... More

Excellent location just outside the Old City, convenient for local shops & transport links. Staff very friendly and helpful, especially Kassim & Ahmed. Breakfast fantastic selection, most rooms being refurbished to a good standard although still some rooms to be done. Friendly atmosphere in reception & lobby area always, staff able to converse in many languages with little problems. Overall... More
