This is a beautiful hotel with fantastic service and incredible gardens. There is nothing but wonderful things to say about it. It is near the Arab Quarter of the Old City and very close to the Damascus Gate. I suspicion is that less Jewish travelers stay there than other similarly priced hotels. We felt very safe and very well taken... More

We were here for a two day stay and could not be happier. We had a corner room on the fourth floor of the main house, facing the mosque. Yes, you could hear the call to prayer, but you're in the Middle East. It's part of the atmosphere. Food is very good, staff is attentive and friendly. It has the... More

Once you have stayed here you cannot ever stay any where else in Jerusalem - its that lovely - dripping with history. Staff discrete and helpful. Old fashioned but all the better for that. Surprisingly good value if you shop around on the likes of booking.com and limit yourself to the basic rooms which are very comfortable. Make sure the... More

We visited the Colony on a recommendation from a local. Having only just arrived it took us minutes to bump into several US journalists. The bar is a speakeasy style, comfortable hideout with an excellent choice of cocktails (the salty dog was great). Waiters are thoughtful but not overbearing. A must if you are in the old town-we certainly hope... More

As a luxury travel writer for world-adventurer.com I've stayed in many luxury boutiques. The American Colony Hotel, a member of the LHW, has an impressive history and has maintained the tradition of providing safe, quality stays to foreign and local guests alike. The building from the late 1800s became a hotel in the early 1900s. Explore the hotel and history... More

I visited the American Colony with a friend out of curiosity having heard a little bit of the history of the place. We were charmed by the beautiful courtyard garden and were treated to excellent service as drop-in visitors. The grounds are inviting and tranquil. Based on our limited experience I would arrange to stay here on my next visit... More

I stayed at the American Colony for a second time in August 2014. The hotel is a journalist favorite so the American Colony was still packed with foreign visitors at a time when foreign travel to Israel was very limited. On this visit I stayed in the Main House in a Standard Room. It was slightly smaller than the Pasha... More

I book a four day stay at the American Colony Hotel after I read that it was one of a thousand places in the world that needs to be seen. They were right. The hotel is fantastic. The service was great and the food was authentic Arabic food with all it glamour.I would highly recommend it.

We had a fantastic 4 night stay at this landmark hotel and could not fault it. We found the location ideal and we could easily walk down the streets to the Damascus or Herod Gates to enter the Old City. The grounds are lovely with private gardens dotted around and the pool area was a great place to relax. We... More

The hotel itself looks nice, but: - it's impossible to get a coffee at breakfast. Staff ignore you. - the garden looks nice to eat in, but it's filled with smokers. - the hallways echo and the walls are thin. Expect to be woken up in the morning with staff talking loudly, banging carts etc. - If you don't hang... More
