No wonder why the American Colony in East Jerusalem been Journalist's favourite for decades. It's location walking distance from the old city, it's amazing rooms, great cuisine and very professional stuff makes staying in this hotel a very positive experience. Ahhhh... and they use Frette bed sets :-)

I absolutely loved this hotel and the history behind it. This was our first time in Jerusalem and the American Colony was a beautiful home base for exploring the city. We had initially booked a Standard room at a great price, expecting to spend most of our time sightseeing, but we were delighted to be upgraded into a gorgeous Deluxe... More

I can't even write enough good things about this hotel - there is history everywhere, in the walls in the buildings, in the decor. The hotel staff were awesome and accommodating and the brunch was extensive and delicious. Loved the courtyard and the bar, both of which are very comfortable for a single woman dining alone. It is slightly north... More

On the beginning of the XXth century a group of devoted Swedish Christians from US have bought this complex of old buildings from a wealthy Arab and his four wives. The property cares not to change any single detail in order to maintain the original character of the place. But, attention, every single appliance is modern, even though looks like... More

What a beautiful, tranquil hotel! The buildings and rooms themselves are tastefully decorated, but it is the gardens throughout the property which are really special. Colorful flowers, lots of greenery, etc. We stayed at the American Colony for 3 nights during a recent visit to Jerusalem. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a Pasha suite, without having to ask,... More

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel as it had a certain charm that can be so lacking in the large chains. We did ask for a room away from the mosque and didn't suffer from any noise. Breakfast was very good, but eating in the hotel in the evening was very expensive and I think better value can be... More

Spic & span, squeaky clean, gorgeous design, exceptional service, comfy beds, amazing food, and you cannot beat the location. Stay here. Do not miss the bookshop across the courtyard - especially for the conversation with the shop owner.

Context: a 7 night stay in order to tour Jerusalem and the surrounding area Pros: a 10-15 minute walk to the old city but far enough away to be outside the chaos that is Jerusalem; historic property; exotic rooms; great breakfast buffet; delicious restaurant - don't miss lunch in the garden; excellent taxi service on site with knowledgeable english speaking... The American Colony Hotel is a boutique hotel located at the seam of east and west Jerusalem, a former Pasha’s palace built in the 19th century, It has an old world feel and over a hundred years of history. One of our beautiful places in East Jerusalem. The food is over prices, and service is poor. You will only get the good service down at the bar or in the summer garden. So make sure you come here for at least a drink!
