In our week staying at Terrace Guesthouse my husband and I were treated to exemplary hospitality and friendliness by both Dogan, the owner and Kemal, the receptionist. We loved our daily chats with these two men who were mines of information about Istanbul. Every morning a lovely lady (Neli, if I recall correctly but probably spell incorrectly) came in to... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night while we were in Istanbul. We were greeted warmly by Dorgan (the owner) upon arrival. He saw me looking at his travel books on his bookshelf and he even gave me a copy of Lonely Planet Turkey to keep! That is exceptional customer service. We were blown away when Dorgan led... More

Staying at the Terrace Guess House is like being on a Stairway to Heaven. The breakfast room and top terrace offer unforgettable and astounding views-surrounded by the Blue Mosque, Haga Sophia and the sea. The kindness and hospitality of Dogan, the owner is heart-warming and gives one the feeling of being at home. The breakfast is delicious and is served... More

Simple intimate guesthouse located in a historic area of Istanbul. Tons of restaurants, quaint shops and steps to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya. The rooftop and breakfast room have stunning views of the Blue Mosque, Aya Soya and the Bosphorus. Dogan Yildrum, the hotel owner is very accommodating, helping with transportation, tips and advice. No lift, so be prepared... More

I was traveling with two friends to Istanbul about a year ago (Oct. 2014), for around 5 days. We had the top room, the triple, and its views were amazing. The Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sofia... not to mention being right next to access to the rooftop terrace, which offered even better views. Dogan, the owner, was wonderful. He arranged... More

Having just returned from an Istanbul/Rome trip my husband & I can say staying at the Terrace Guesthouse with Dogan (the owner) was the highlight of our trip! Seriously! We were in communication a lot before hand due to some State Department notices regarding security. I appreciated Dogan's honesty but the incidences were no where near us as Istanbul is... More

Tiny guest house/hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet - great access to everywhere. Beautifully decorated with carpets everywhere. A windy staircase (I had to hold on as I was a bit unsteady) led to a small and cosy bedroom, again with fabulous carpets on the walls. A lovely breakfast is served on the top tiny floor with fabulous views of... More

I am a big sucker for beautiful roof top's and I know when i started planning our trip to Istanbul, I started to look for accommodations with a nice view in old sultanhmet area ( I think this is the best place to stay for first time visitors to Istanbul ) . After going through many hotel reviews, i zeroed... More

We stayed 4 nights at the Terrace Guesthouse. Dogan and Kemal were hospitable and helpful and we felt so well accommodated. The roof top terrace affords amazing views of the city. Dogan and staff were always available for restaurant recommendations, maps of walking routes or other suggestions, and to schedule an airport shuttle. The room was cozy and comfortable. The... More

It is a couple years since my visit, and the hospitality offered by Dogan and Kemal is still top class. Clean and comfortable, this place offers great ambience in the old part of Istanbul. A roof-top breakfast experience is true icing on the cake. Handy to all sites and restaurants this hotel is top value for money. I just love... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
