The pleasant hotel with nice oriental rooms. Rooms are clean, widely decorated, with quite comfortable beds. Bathrooms are large, fully equipped (towels, slippers, toiletry ). Hotel staff is very helpful and respectful. Breakfast could be more varied. In my opinion, it would be good to invest in better windows, because you can hear almost everything from the street.

I spent about two weeks at this hotel, and I considered myself lucky. I had business nearby, and I was able to walk there and back morning and night on the seashore without any problem, enjoying the sea breeze and the serene park scenes. The start of each day was splendid with a luxurious layout of a buffet for breakfast... More

I went to Istanbul with my mom -I am 24-. We are Greeks but she was born and raised in Fener so we were more than happy to find this hotel. This house was almost identical to my moms childhood house so she was really excited to stay in Daphnis but so was I, since I really wanted to see... More

Yes the building and the very immediate environs have an old world charm, yes you are within walking distance of the Patriarchate and Chora and yes you do have a view over the Golden Horn from your balcony but what the website (and the reviews we read before my wife and I booked, including in the Guardian) failed to mention... Having booked online for 6 nights and provided credit card details,we presented passport identification on arrival, as is normal practice everywhere. Inexplicably, however,on the very first day, as we passed the reception desk, our bill was given to us and full advance payment was demanded. We duly signed along the dotted line. The indelicate manner in which the bill was thrust in... More

We stayed here for 5 nights- overall the location is good...close to the main mounuments. Room is small but clean and comfortable and had a fantastic view. The staff especially Orkhan at the front desk was really helpful. Overall a good stay.

this hotel is very old, warm and romantic. the view of the golden horn was lovely.. they upgraded our room to a suite so it was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was very small with a separate shower box. The breakfast was served next to the entrance, outdoor so the setting was cheerful and nice -not the typical basement breakfast... More

This hotel was quiet, no frills, but comfortable just like my new york apartment. It was cute and nicely decorated. The view of the golden horn from our terrace was also quite nice. The breakfast was ok and the staff was very friendly. I was hoping for a bit more of a bathroom. It was a little shocking at first... More

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighborhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
