Everyone at this hotel was friendly and helpful. They greeted us with a smile every morning before we left and every night when we came back to rest. I made friendly connections with the receptions and especially a guy called Emre. He taught me a few words in Turkish and I taught him a few words in English. I won't... More

We have had the most amazing time in Istanbul thanks to the wonderful staff at Sumengen hotel. Special thanks to bell boy Emre and receptionist Ugur for making our stay so enjoyable. They were very accomodating to our needs and approachable and helpful with directions and best places to go and see. Also bellboy Emre makes the best tea in... More

We recently stayed at the Sumengen Hotel for 4 nights. As first time visitors to Instanbul, we wanted to explore the sights of the old town area and this hotel was perfectly located for our requirements. A five minute walk takes you to the square from where you can easily explore the major (and magnificent) sights of the Blue Mosque,... More

I stayed in one of the family rooms for 3 nights in the beginning of August. There were 4 of us in total however despite this our room was absolutely fantastic! Although being small under initial expressions the room turned out to be adequate and in fact quite roomy. The room amenities as well as the bathroom facilities were excellent.... More

The place is near the sultanahmet square and most of important attractions by walking 4 minutes. Near the hotel there is a lot of nice restaurants . The reception are very helpful and nice. Despite that I lost my sunglasses at the lobby and couldn't find them.(the staff said that we cannot access the camera to see who took it)... More

Excellent location a few paces from the big sites. Nice, helpful people on the reception desk and good breakfast on a very pleasant terrace. Four stars rather than five because our room was little on the cramped and worn side, and on two of our five nights there, it was rather noisy due to guests with babies/small children, who seem... We stayed in this very charming, excellent location hotel. With access to the Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque in mere minutes, fantastic for a first time visitor. Great Turkish breakfast, WiFi in the rooms. Very friendly staff who were always willing to help.

For the tourist who wants all things local and nearby, without the hassle of traveling in the overcrowded city of Istanbul; this place is for you. If you're willing to look minor faults such as aged furniture, small quarters for the convenience of the location this is for you. However, if you're after modern furniture, up market linen and small... More

I stayed here on a Rick Steves tour with a few independent days added on. The room was comfortable and large—almost too large for a single traveler. The front desk staff was very helpful. The breakfast buffet good and varied, and the terrace of the breakfast room offered a good view of the Bosporus and the Asian shore.

This small boutique hotel is in a fantastic location - Sultanhamet area in the shadow of the Blue Mosque. In spite of it's amazing location, so near the sites of the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, and Aya Sophia, it is quiet and peaceful. Restaurants and shopping are literally just steps away from the front door. But location is not it's best... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
