This little hotel has spacious rooms and bathrooms, well appointed and nicely decorated, on 4 floors of a narrow building. Very clean. Staff are very friendly, and carry the bags up and down readily. Mataraci Konak is near enough to the major attractions to walk there, and far enough to be off the madding way. Restaurants next door, across the... More

The hotel is in an excellent location, approx. 10 minutes by walk from Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Sultanahmet square. The staff is extremely helpful, rooms are cleaned every day and very well equipped. Breakfast fresh every day. In the area of the hotel you can find numerous restaurants and coffee shops, also supermarket is in walking distance. You can... More

Really good hôtel ! The room was spacious and very clean. The bed was confortable and the breakfast really good too. The hotel was well situated, in the center of the historical city next to little Ayasofya which was quite amazing as well as next the Blue Mosque and Ayasofya. We could visit everything by foot. The service was perfect... More

This is an excellent hotel in a magnificent historical city located in the heart of Istanbul (sultanahmet). This hotel has a short walking distance to all the main historical attractions such as the Blue Mosque: Sultanahmet, Topkapi Palace, Büyük Ayasofya, Grand Bazaar, The Basilica and the Bosphorus sea (Istanbul Bogazi). The room I stayed in was great and my bed... More

Good location in Istanbul The manager is friendly Nice room (modern and well-cleaned) but too small for us / shading curtains needed. Poor breakfast : must be improved and small breakfast room. Noisy bedroom we could hear our neighbours and people in the stairway. Smoking smell every day coming in our bedroom It is a small B&B , you cannot... More

The b&b was only ok. It fell short of expectations, mainly because of the service - felt like they were beginners in the business. Several minor points, but they do add up: 1) I like unsweetened coffee with my breakfast. This wasn't available when I asked for it on the first day, and even on the second day they had... More

Great welcome and beautiful room with a view. The hotel staff is really friendly and willing to give information and make themselves available at any time of day. We returned after a week and they were very nice place us in the suite again, I must say, it was a little like coming home. Among other things, the location is... More

I'm beginning to think that hotel owners don't like booking.com because it seems that no matter how far in advance I book or what kind of room preference I request on booking.com, I get the worst room in the hotel. At Mataraci, the manager told me there "was something wrong" with the double I booked (on an upper floor) and... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
