The Grand Hotel De Londres (Buyuk Londra) drips with history and charm. From the fin de siecle decor to the lumpy jukebox in the bar; from the wooden telephone kiosk to the collection of old heaters; from the ornately decorated radiators to the carved maidens overlooking the Golden Horn. The bar alone makes it a must - and check out... more

When we booked our trip in May, Istanbul was on our top list in Turkey. Buyuk Londra Hotel looks amazing on the pictures but when it comes to service and room sizes, it is a big dissapointment. However it's central location in town is a big plus, since in Istanbul, you do not need to spend that much time in... more

If your stay in the hotel doesn't take you past you past the bar, you're in luck! The bar and lounge are charming indeed. You can see (and smell) the glorious past of the hotel. That was the extent of the hotel's charm. Upon check-in, the hotel had somehow lost all of our reservations. They pulled together a couple of... more

Love this place! It is a charming old hotel, featured in several films by Fatih Akin (Gegen die Wand and Crossing the Bridge) but looks much better now after renovations. The staff are friendly and service is professional. The bed was so comfy I almost didn't want to get up. I have stayed here twice and it has become my... more

after reading the two most recent reviews, I was a little upset. This hotel was my home for 3 weeks and I have never had a better experience. But then again, what do you go to a hotel for? 100% comfort or the experience? I was studying abroad in Berlin and Istanbul was a side-trip. Our professor had stayed at... more

We spent five nights in one of the non-renovated rooms. Our room was shabby to the point of decrepit, with a bathroom that was deplorable and disgusting. The room was very large and had high ceilings, which was it's only saving grace. In looking aound a bit, it turns out that almost all the rooms in the hotel are in... more

We spent three days at the Londra and I would agree with much of what the other reviews have said. The old and faded atmosphere is great and the chandelier in reception has to be seen to be believed. You must book a renovated room though the standard ones on the fifth floor are very small so better to spend... more

The Londra has all kinds of Old World charm and is conveniently located in the lively Beyoglu section, which is the center of contemporary Istanbul. Reasonably priced, it is steps away from Istiklal Cadessi, a pedestrian thoroughfare and the main artery of activity. The hotel has the same period feel as the somewhat more luxurious Pera Palas Hotel of Orient... more

The Buyuk Londra isn’t bad, and I feel a bit rotten giving it only three stars – it’s more three and a half out of five but to award four would be misleading. The location is good, I stayed here after a few nights in the more traditional Sultanahmet. I wanted to stay closer to the nightlife on Istiklal Cadessi... more

If you're looking for an inexpensive hotel that's close to Istiklal Caddessi, Nevizade Sokak and Tasim Square (where a lot of Istanbul's night life is) with a lot of charm, this is a great deal with lots of character and a great lively bar. My partner and I stayed here because it was the hotel that Ernest Hemmingway stayed at... more
