The Sürmeli Hotel is one of the older hotels in Istanbul. This was my first stay at this hotel and I found the rooms in particular showing excessive signs of age, not just in the dowdy looking furniture, but also the utilities. That’s probably why it is so cheap for a 5-star. I wouldn’t give it more than 3-stars by... More

Stayed here before and after our tour of Turkey. I was worried about coming here because of some of the reviews I'd read but found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. The variety at breakfast was amazing! We tried out the hotel restaurant the first night and I felt like I was in Heaven. The service and food... More

I would like to thank the reception staff in particular at the Surmeli hotel in Istanbul. I had the unfortunate luck to have my cash card scammed on my first day in Turkey resulting in all my spending money being withdrawn fraudulently from an ATM in Taksim. The staff were wonderful organising phone calls and translating on my behalf to... More

The design of this hotel is terrible. It is shaped like a cylinder with rooms around the outside. The centre part ıs open from basement to the top floor so all noise echoes up the centre. You can hear anyone slam their door no matter what floor they are on. Kids screaming, babies crying, people talking... you hear it all.... More

Currently on my final night staying the Surmeli Hotel in Istanbul whilst traveling from work. The appearance of the hotel is stunning. Reception desks, seating areas, restaurants and bars all boast grandeur and elegance. Business rooms (floors 8, 9 & 10) however are more 3* than 5*. They are basic, lack cleaniliness and are screaming for an update. I've had... More

Staying in Sisli

Neighborhood Profile
Sisli
For much of Istanbul’s history, Sisli and the area just north of Taksim Square were open countryside used mostly as hunting grounds. These days, Sisli and its chic streets are considered the very heart of contemporary Istanbuli life, where an epicenter of fashion and a thriving business district meet to create an expressly “downtown” feel. Though largely a residential neighborhood, luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and upscale shops abound with many of them situated inside or nearby Cevahir Istanbul, the biggest shopping mall in Europe and second biggest urban shopping mall in the world. Shopaholics and fashionistas travel from near and far to browse the area's mix of major global brand items and creations by popular Turkish designers.
