I stayed at the Hotel Alp last year for three nights and will do so again this year. If you are budget-conscious it's a fabulous option. Located in the heart of Sultanahmet, it is a short walk to all the main attractions (Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, Blue Mosque etc) and just a little longer to the Grand Bazaar.... In the equation price/ quality this hotel is a total winner. It’s located very centrally (7’ walk to Hagia Sophia, same sort of distances to Topkapi palace, Blue Mosque etc). Clean, comfortable rooms serviced daily. The staff speaks very good English and knows the city well – we got good tips as to where to go, prices, what times etc.... More

We stayed here twice during April - for 4 nights at the beginning of the month & 2 nights towards the end of the month. We left luggage at the hotel while we travelled through Turkey. we were made very welcome during our entire stay at The Alp & on our return we were greeted like old friends. All the... More

The hotel is located in one of the most touristic areas of Istanbul, a short walk to the Blue Mosque, and lots of restaurants one or two blocks away. The staff was very friendly and always very helpful. The room is quite small, but clean, with internet and TV (even though no channels in English). The breakfast is fairly ok,... More

Fantastic location, fabulous place for families with kids, very nice, friendly and professional people. They were very much accommodating to our kids. Service was very good. Folks at the front desk always gave us the right information and suggested places to eat, dine, shop and visit, keeping in mid that we had kids.

On a quiet side street in Sultanahmet Neighborhood -- couple blocks from Blue Mosque / Hagia Sophia / Topkapi Palace. They provided airport pick up for 25 Euros. Charming room. In-room safe. Small fridge. Drinking water in large dispensers in lobby and on roof with cups as needed. Soap and shampoo provided. Great breakfast on the roof (enclosed or outside)... More

Bearing in mind that this is not a high-end luxury hotel, it's an excellent bet if you're looking for something affordable in the Sultanahmet area (around Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque). It's a small place with maybe a dozen rooms or so. But the rooms are tidy and comfortable and the staff helpful and friendly. There are a lot of... More

Very comfortable. Rooms are nothing special or luxurious, but clean and great for sleeping after long days in Istanbul. Excellent location and very friendly staff. Beautiful rooftop terrace for breakfast (the food is so so)

We found this place through a friend's recommendation, just behind the Aya Sofia and very convenient for the Major tourist sights. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with lots of good suggestions for things to do. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable: our family room was just right for the four of us. Breakfast in the top-floor... More

We were very happy with this small hotel. The location was great, within easy walking distance of major sites and tram stop. Although our room was small, it was very nice, with wooden floor, 4 poster bed and lots of windows, plus a small safe. The free Wi-Fi worked well. There was some late-night noise from the nearby street full... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
