This is an amazing little hotel built on the ruins of an old hamman near all of the attractions of the Sultanahmet district. The grounds and rooms are lovely, very charming and full of fun little touches that make it truly Istanbul. Our room was a spacious suite that slept 5, included a cozy nook with a table and fridge... The Empress Zoe was a wonderful oasis - providing character and comfort in the heart of Sultanahmet. The courtyard was a beautiful environment in which to enjoy the healthy and varied breakfast and then plan the day. Then at the end of a day exploring Istanbul's delights and sights, the rooftop provided a different retreat. From here we found ourselves... More

We love staying in places that represent the country. Once inside some hotel rooms you would not know what city you are in. This is not the case with Zoe as it oozes authentic character & charm. Do not stay here if you are a lover of big & brassy international hotels. The courtyard suite was big & perfect. Breakfast... More

Perfect position for exploring the city. Friendly and helpful staff and a delightful garden to enjoy and escape from the heat. Beware if you aren't very mobile as there is a spiral staircase to get to main body of the hotel. Barman not very helpful but everything and everyone else lovely. Would definitely return if we visit Istanbul again.

We had a courtyard suite which was wonderful. As we later discovered when travelling through Turkey, a kettle in the room is rare and we were delighted that Empress Zoe supplied one, together with a good supply of teas and coffee. There a quite a few stairs in this hotel but our room offered an alternative exit via the (locked)... More

We stayed in this wonderful little hotel for 6 nights in a garden villa suite in mid September and decided to extend our time in Istanbul but couldn't stay on at Empress Zoe as they were fully booked. We really missed the room, the service, the garden and the ambiance of the place. It is a true delight, one of... More

Good value hotel in an excellent position with everything you need and a plethora of restaurants as you walk out the door. A garden for breakfast, a roof terrace for evening drinks but do not get carried away as the stairs down might be challenging. The concierge will book taxis and restaurants and give advice.

We stayed in the penthouse at Empress Zoe for a week during our first trip to Istanbul. We cannot say enough great things about this hotel - the service was impeccable, the hotel and its amenities were quaint, and the staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The hotel is ideally positioned for those wanting to see the... More

A friend discovered this hotel over the internet, and the photos and reviews convinced us that this was the place we should stay in Istanbul. We were right. The hotel is in a highly desirable location--2 blocks from the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. The building has been beautifully restored and is a delightful representation of Old Istanbul. The... Thank you for your very kind review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciate your superlative comments. With regard to your 2 problems: Firstly we do not allow smoking in the hotel except in the garden or on the upstairs terraces. We state this on our website very clearly. In fact under Turkish law smoking... More

First, the plus. the location of the Empress Zoe is great. Within walking distance of the Blue Mosque (albeit, up quite a steep hill) and also with a good choice of restaurants nearby. Now, the rest. We paid around Euros 120 for our twin room. We had 3 beds in the room, but not much else. There were no bedside... More

These guests had a booking with us for one night only. They booked one double room with double bed (which was actually one of our nicest doubles with balcony on the garden) and the twin room reviewed here (which was actually a triple room with 3 single beds). I was surprised by the highly critical comments. Firstly there are built... More
