From the moment we arrived at Empress Zoe it was clear this was a special hotel. The staff were friendly and you felt at home. We had the split double room with hamam and while the hotel's web site warns of small spaces it was no smaller than many other European hotel rooms. The whole hotel is full of charm.... More

Located in the heart of the old city near many tourist attractions- and literally 2 blocks from Topkapi- Empress Zoe is a great place from which to explore the sites. The hotel is a collection of older, renovated houses all facing a lovely inner courtyard adjacent to a ruin. It can only be accessed through a narrow spiral staircase in... More

There is not much more one can want in a hotel. Comfortable and spacious room, good air con ( as it was summer !). large shower. Very fresh produce for a healthy breakfast in an open but private garden. Afternoon or pre-dinner drinks in the lovely private garden. Helpful staff. Great location in an amazing City with a walk to... More

We stayed here for 4 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment on 2 floors. Top floor was excellent with balconies and couches while bedrooms were downstairs, which were small but adequate. Staff were all very helpful and the breakfast was also healthy and filling. Great location for all major historical venues. Also there is a lovely courtyard to relax at... More

We stayed here in August for 2 nights. It was really central to all the major sites and plenty of restaurants near by. We had a family rook which had plenty of room for us all. Breakfast was really special sitting in the cool of the garden. I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return very soon

Lots of hotels in the area claim to be boutique but when you look at their websites nothing about them is. Empress Zoe knows exactly how to please a guest - good quality breakfast, attentive and knowledgeable staff, three gorgeous cats, a landscaped garden area, a bar on the roof, tastefully designed bedrooms and original features of the building on... We had a family suite which was perfect:spacious, not expensive and with a stunning bathroom. The hotel is quiet, friendly and has a wonderful garden to escape the heat. The location is unbeatable: right next to St Sofia and the Blue Mosque and Topkapi palace.

I stayed here with my family on our annual holiday. We chose Empress Zoe for its location within walking distance of lots of major sites, and were not disappointed. The staff are fantastic, they recommended restaurants for us, advised on transport, and were really friendly and helpful, as well as professional. Trust their recommendations! The roof terrace and the courtyard... More

A small unpretentious, charming hotel in a perfect location for walking around Sultanamet. The breakfasts are superb and the garden is a beautifully quiet place to enjoy it. There's a small roof deck that's perfect for an evening cocktail enjoying a view that takes in everything. I'd go back anytime.

The location can't be beat. The staff is friendly. Even though the spiral stairs going up are a bit scary, the staff carries everything up and down. The restaurant area outside is lovely. Breakfast is ample with a choice of scrambled eggs, fruits, breads. It wasn't noisy, even though it is right next to major attractions. Value for your dollar.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
