I landed at the Attaturk International Airport and I took the metro here to the Topkapı-Ulubatlı station. I then walked about 1.8km to the hotel. It doesn't go through the best neighborhoods but I felt safe.I got there and was quickly given my room. I asked the hotel receptionist many different things and they always helped me. I never met... in the western districts, near the CHora Church, is this gem of a hotel. the restaurant downstairs is best in Istanbul. people are friendly. i've stayed in front room on 1st floor, and suite on 2nd floor. both rooms very large an incredible value. the small shopping area nearby, as well as cafe, are so much more pleasant than crowded... This hotel is in a great location, off the beaten track, in an interesting neighbourhood of Istanbul. Getting to the city center might look far, but if you like a stroll through the neighbourhood, you can travel in by boat which is a lovely start to the day. The hotel has a great restaurant, loved by local food-lovers. We were... More

This oasis of calm in the hurly-burly of Istanbul is the perfect choice for those who relish the peace and quiet of a traditional Istanbul quarter with the additional plus of having not only the world-renowned Chora Church next door but also one of the city's most renowned restaurants, the Asitane, within its walls. This hotel is staffed by the... More

I stayed in two hotels on my recent trip to Istanbul. One was a Western style hotel in the old city and one was the Kariye Oteli near the Chora church. I thought Karyie was great, especially for the money. Staff was friendly and went out of its way to be helpful. One of the receptionists even gave us a... More

The setting of the Hotel besides karye kilesi (chora chruch) is nice. BUT...now we need to stop being kind. The bathroom is... More

I stayed in this hotel several times, one of which was five days. The breakfast is the first thing to be mentioned, always rich and fresh, with well done Turkish tea. Not less from what is to be expected from the well known restaurant of the hotel (Though the prices of the other dishes in the restaurant is expensive compared... More

The hotel and the room was attractive with tranditional furnishings and comfortable bed and we have an outlook onto the museum next door and view on Istanbul. It is right next door to the beautiful Kariye Museum which is a MUST SEE when in Istanbul, seeing this Museum was one of the highlight of our trip. The bathroom was adequate... More

the hotel is situated right next to Chora Museum, in the Fatih district. this is a very nice neighborhood, with nice views over the Golden Horn. it's an old wooden building, as most of the buildings in this area, very shiny, especially the part overlooking the Golden Horn. the rooms needs to be renovated, but keeping the old style which... Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighborhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
