We had the apartment which had a beautiful view out over the Marmara Sea. The room was large and comfortable with a king size bed. Not a regular item in Europe. The staff were fantastic and always there with a smile. Even though we felt like we were in the heart of Sultanamet/Ayasofya it did not feel like we were... More

What sets this hotel apart are Gaye, Greg and the wonderful, friendly staff. My husband and I stayed for a week in a beautiful room with its own terrace on the top floor. So spacious and comfortable and adjacent to the roof top terrace. The breakfasts were typical Turkish, filling and delicious and my husband ordered an omelette and fresh... More

Ayasofya is a beautiful boutique hotel right around the corner from the cultural heart of Istanbul. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay with Gaye and Greg. Our room was comfortable and clean, the traditional Turkish breakfast daily was lovely and the evening drinks on the rooftop in the sunshine were gorgeous! Only a 5 minute walk... More

The hotel is walking distance to all the main attractions . The rooms are very comfortable and air conditioned . Breakfast is fantastic fresh and lots to choose from . We had a family room with a balcony verandah and an incredible view of the sea of marmara. Greg helped us with directions which made it easy to get around... More

The hotel is a delightfully restored 19th century 4 storied mansion right in the heart of the old city. The room was clean and had all the usual amenities, one would expect of a hotel at twice the price but with period features and great attention to detailed restoration. The staff were all so caring and helpful that it was... More

I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, which is conveniently located within easy walk to the major sights of Istanbul. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The terrace is a great spot for a quiet drink at the end of the day. I'd stay here again.

This small hotel (probably 3 star) is ideally located in the old city, and is an easy walk to most of the key attractions. It is run by two Aussies, Gaye and Greg, who are very friendly and helpful, as are the local staff. The rooms are adequate although the plumbing is typical Turkish i.e. not great, but you get... This hotel is within easy walking distance of the major Istanbul attractions, including the blue mosque and the bazaar. The hotel itself is in an old building, with many quaint features. The rooms are a good size. Service is very friendly and helpful.

This boutique hotel was a real find, so close to everything that matters, but quiet enough to sit on the balcony and savour the evening sunset.. The service was amazing - everyone was helpful and there was a willingness to go the extra mile for us, be it arranging a boat trip or catering for an impromptu dinner Nothing was... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
