We had an amazing stay at this hotel. Our bedroom was big enough for two. Hospitable staff (even if others find them rude) at Ayasofya who were welcoming and helpful in every aspect of our stay in the amazing and intriguing Istanbul!! We would love to stay at this hotel the next time we visit Istanbul.

The Ayasofya Hotel is a must. It's friendly owner (originally from Melbourne) and Manager and helpful staff ensure your stay is a good one. As a solo traveller on their first trip to Istanbul I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The hotel is in the traditional style, nestled in a quiet street of Sultanahmet and is easy walking distance to all the major attractions. The room was clean and comfortable and the buffet breakfast served daily offered local and continental delights. The... More

In the heart of Sultanahmet , Ayasofya is near everything you dream of seeing in Istanbul. Big comfortable room, great breakfast and great bar for evening drinks made it the perfect base for our stay. Hostess Gaye went out of her way to help whenever needed and ended up organising the most amazing 4 weeks we spent in Turkey.

I loved my time in this hotel: it really "made" my stay in Istanbul! Hosts Gaye and Greg and their team are so welcoming that one feels like family almost immediately. I had 4 nights there on arrival in Turkey and it was a great base to explore the old city, handy to trams and the major attractions, but quiet... More

An excellent property reminiscent of ottoman era, with friendly hotel stuff certainly made our Istanbul trip memorable. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar.

We had the apartment which had a beautiful view out over the Marmara Sea. The room was large and comfortable with a king size bed. Not a regular item in Europe. The staff were fantastic and always there with a smile. Even though we felt like we were in the heart of Sultanamet/Ayasofya it did not feel like we were... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
