is that it's near all the sights and it's inexpensive. I am a senior so it was hard for me to walk up all the steps after facing steep hills and steps all day. If you like your creature comforts, this is not for you. Wi-Fi hardly worked in the rooms, best in lobby. Breakfasts were OK. Our bathroom was... More

We are disappointed with this 2 point review. This guest has been writing to us since March and we have counted over 12 emails replies. We answered her patiently replying to her question, about her stay, what to do, the complimentary transfer, how to get tickets for the sites, museum passes just about everything. Yes our hotel is located down... More

Small Hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet just 5 min away from the Blue Mosque. The design is a little bit old, but the staff speaks a good english, is very friendly and smiling. We stayed in a small flat at the back-side of the hotel with a great sea-view. Unfortunately the wi-fi in this side of the hotel didn't... More

We were greeted warmly on arrival, offered tea and Tim Tams and felt immediately relaxed. Ayosofya is ideally located in a quiet street in Sultanahmet within walking distance of all the main sights and close to a number of quality restaurants. Our room was small but it was impeccably clean and the bed was very comfortable. The rooftop terrace was... More

This is a quaint old hotel in a very central location. Our room was 208 and faced the street. The two good sized windows in the room opened and we were able to catch the breeze. Every morning around 4:30 am, the Imam would call the faithful to prayer and the loudspeaker seemed to be quite near the hotel. The... More

I got a booking via booking.com for 4 nights based on the relative good reviews this hotel got. At the hotel I got room 124 in the basement with about half window to the world and a bathroom that didn't even have a curtain to separate the shower from the rest of the bathroom. So when one used the sower,... More

I object to this review! Our hotel is not a scam. We are a 3 star hotel in great location in Sultanahmet and we try very hard to please our guests with service and the best rooms we have at the time. The guest booked two double rooms, and they were allocated one on the 3rd floor a lovely room... More

The Ayasofya is a warm, welcoming and well-managed, boutique private hotel in a quiet street centrally situated in the Sultanahmet sector of Istanbul; minutes away from the Blue Mosque, the Cistern Basilica and other must-see sites. Its home-style charm is the hallmark of the proprietor Gaye and her Aussie manager Greg, who lead a team of very courteous and attentive... More

We stayed 5 nights. Very convenient for walking to main sites in Sultanahmet area, tram and bus. Staff unfailingly helpful in giving advice for our ad hoc, self determined itineraries, and readily appreciated we were budget travellers. Hence, directed us to the cheaper Hamam, not the expensive one near the Hippodrome. Breakfast was enough to keep one going through the... More

We are experienced travelers - I think I've slept in at least 50 different beds this year - and the Ayasofya really stands out. It specializes in a personal, welcoming ambiance and outstanding service, which makes a huge difference in a large and confusing city like Istanbul. We stayed in an apartment run by the hotel that is around the... More

Definitely recommend. The owners and staff go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of. If new to Istanbul, make sure you hire a guide (Ayasofya Hotel can set guides up for Istanbul and rest of country) as your trip is so much richer if you do. With a certified guide, no waiting in lines... More
