We stayed here for a long weekend. Five of us had an apartment, which was two bedrooms with a lounge inbetween (with a pull out sofa). Had a good kitchen and bathroom. It was nice having a lounge and a very small balcony. It is an excellent location in Beyoglu - near the main shopping street, lots of bars and... More

I have been staying at Galata Residence -- in a small apt. in one of the two annexes right near the main building (which is closed now for renovation) -- for almost two months. I have one more week to go. For the most part, I have been very happy here. There have been some problems, I will admit... e.g.... More

Was our first time in Istanbul. After 2 days in an other hotel we relocated to the Galata Residence. The apartment was huge but smelled a bit after drainage - but this is pretty much EVERYWHERE the case. The darinage system in the whole city is old. The beds were very comfortable, the furniture a bit worn. The bathroom old,... More

Like the review before me this hotel is located on a very steep street and is reached by a flight of stairs so it is only best suited for mobile folks. Now...aside from that we loved the Galata Residence. We (mom, dad and teenage daughter) booked a two bedroom apartment. The apartment was spacious and perfect for our needs- good... More

Upon Arrival it is immediatly clear that this apartment/hotel is not suitable for elderly and disabled individuals. The hotel is situated in a series of backstreets and is accessed by approx 30-40 steep steps or a very steep walk up those narrow streets. The aparment itself was fine although looked a little dated in the bathroom and kitchen. The living... More

This place is absolutely perfect if you are traveling with a large family. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen for 90 euros per night. The hotel was close to everything. One thing about the hotel is that it's not near the other touristy hotels, therefore not all the cab drivers know exactly where it is.... More

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighborhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
