We stayed in September in Istanbul and booked directly on their website a double room for 90 Euro per night incl. breakfast. We knew the place from earlier trips and expected something similar. But the staff has completely changed, is not particularly friendly and the rates are too high. Breakfast is just OK. Especially the tour operator on the ground... More

We stayed at the Side Hotel both at the beginning of our trip in Turkey and at the end of the trip. It is located on a side street a block from the Hagia Sophia. The room was a nice size..it had a double and a single bed in it. The room (#214) was situated toward the back of the... More

This is a nice small hotel located in a quiet area and within one minute walk to the historical Hagia Sophia Byzantine Church and the Blue Mosque. Clean rooms. English speaking & friendly staff. Good views from the terrace of the building. Average breakfast. Also within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and the tram line. Great value.

We stayed for 3 nights and love this place. The view from the roof-terrace is superb. And the people who run this hotel is very friendly. The breakfast is ok, and it is really in the center of everything in Istanbul. Looking forward to stay here again!

Location, location is the reason to stay! Easy walk to all attractions, simple breakfast included ( bread, fruit, coffee, eggs extra). Breakfast room on rooftop was delightful. Our group of 7 met up there before dinner for glass of wine (that we locally purchased). Basic, small rooms in hotel, need to ask for extra towels and bathmat. Great coffee shop... More

Location, location, location. Side Hotel is where you want to be as a tourist in Istanbul. Close to the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Hagia Sophia, yet priced so affordably you don't have to be wealthy to stay there. Rooms are plain but clean and the showers are great! Breakfasts are a good size with omelettes available for an... More

Another super relaxing holiday, brilliant home made traditional Turkish cooking among good friends and fellow guests, the cat and dog had not changed a bit and entertained us all in the hot sunshine with temperatures rising above 42C. Even the unprecedented street riots in the old city could not ruin the holiday although did cause some disruption as city closed to traffic... More

The Side Hotel is located in a great, safe area of the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul. The Pension refers to the rooftop area that views in equal close distance from the hotel, both the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. They both are within a very short walk. The hotel is nothing too fancy so if you that is what you... More

Located in the old town (within walking distance to many of the main sites- Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Basilica Cistern and Topkapi Palace and nearby to decent restaurants) Friendly, helpful staff with complementary tea whenever you like. Breakfast included, limited choice but okay. No lift access but only 3 flights of stairs. Roomy bedrooms with comfortable beds. We were recommended... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
