We love this place! It's like 5-10 mins walk to every major attractions. Staff (esp Sophia, a beautiful Armenian lady) are very friendly and helpful. They let us keep our luggage (after checkout) while we go sightseeing. The hotel is designed in traditional Ottoman style with a modern touch, so it was simple but elegant, and kinda give you a... Located in a major road, Merial Hotel is only about 200 meter from Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Toppkapi Palace and Sutanahmet Park. Nicely decorated in traditional style, it is clean, safe and easy to find and easy to reach. Walking distance to Sutanahmet trams station. Breakfast is at the rooftop of Adamar Hotel, its sister hotel, just across the... More

The Merial is a small hotel with limited facilities but it is an absolute bargain. Breakfast is served at a partner hotel just 20 yards away and is an excellent buffet spread. The hotel itself seemed to have only about 10 rooms but there is a front desk and a friendly member of staff always around. Rooms could probably do... More

Walking distance to major attractions in Sultanahmet area: Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar etc. Lots of places to eat nearby and close to the tramway line. Rooms are small, but clean and with comfortable bed; very satisfied for the price / quality ratio. Friendly staff and 24h reception. The breakfast was good and served at the partner... More

We spent two night here. Rooms are nice and clean, a bit small. Bathroom was simple but complete, a bit uncomfortable to go by stairs. Price is reasonable for the combination. Location was perfect to move on foot.

Had to stay at the Merial one night due to the Adamar Hotel being overbooked. I doubt I would have stayed here by choice. That said, there were pros and cons. Pros: it is in an excellent, central location in the Sultanahmet area, and within easy walking distance to many nearby attractions and tram line. The staff, especially Sophia at... More

The hotel is tucked in the bustling Sultanahmet area, perfect location for stay. The managers are friendly and helpful. Rooms are tiny but clean and we were fine with it as we used it only for sleeping. Though lighting is not sufficient and privacy is an issue. There is no breakfast service, but several eating joints nearby compensates for it.... More

The hotel was very well located and was extremely close to sultanahmet. There were also several restaurants and cafés around. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got a ground floor room but there was no noise. The rooms were also very well decorated and looked typically turkish. A good stay overall.

I stayed at the Merial Hotel for only 1 night after the end of a tour. The tour hotel in Istanbul would have cost more for the extra night than Merial, so I decided to move hotels. Merial is very conveniently located (within walking distance) of all the major attractions in Istanbul, and close to public transportation if you want... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
