We stayed here a part of our honeymoon, and couldn't find anything to fault. The staff, breakfast, room and facilities were fantastic, and helped make our time in Istanbul memorable. The owners who ran the hotel really love what they do and were a great help.

This hotel has a great location. The breakfast has an unbelievable variety of options, both traditional and western, and the service was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Selem and crew for making our stay memorable in the nicest possible way! Ron & Nella Melbourne, Australia.

We stayed four nights at Basileus Hotel in early July. The brothers who run the hotel are super friendly, nothing is too much trouble and they can organise just about anything. The rooms are pretty good and beds are comfortable while the breakfast is fantastic. Location wise, the hotel is excellent, only a 5 minute walk to some of Istanbul's... More

My husband and I have just had an amazing stay at Basileus Hotel where the small staff go out of their way to make your stay a great experience. Ekrem and his brother Selim were most hospitable from advising us where to eat, what to see and even bargaining via phone to get the best price on an item you... More

The Basileus Hotel was a great little find in the Sultanahmet area. This family run Hotel was very accommodating and nothing was a problem. We were give great advice on sites to visit and restaurants to eat at that were good local eating places and not too expensive. Cesme restaurant across the road was very nice with very friendly staff.... More

We spent one night here before going on a cruise. Hotel is located in the old city. Room and bathroom larger and more comfortable than average European hotel. Walking distance to Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace. Restaurants across street. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Istanbul is a fascinating city and a travel bargain. Easy to get... More

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. What impressed us the most is the efficient and super helpful staff. Knowledgeable and eager to assist wherever possible. So much to do and see in walking distance. Would stay here again.. :-)

We stayed here for 4 nights as a base for exploring Istanbul. The staff are incredible, they cannot do enough to help you and are happy to offer advice on which restaurants to visit, where to stop for a drink on your way round the city and even which attractions to visit in which order to make the most of... My husband and I stayed at the hotel for six nights. This is a family run hotel and very reasonably priced. Everyone was extremely helpful regarding places to visit, prices etc. Breakfast was good as was the aftenoon tea. Highly recommended. They also provide complimentary airport pick up if you are staying more than 3 days.

Reasonably priced, heart of the historic district, easy to walk to places like the blue mosque, surrounded by places to eat etc, I certainly find all I need at Basileus. The staff is friendly, helpful and go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure they can help. I went with my family. Breakfast was good, the tea... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
