We stayed in a obscure ten-bedded room — it seemed that windows were permanently closed and covered, so it quickly became very hot and airless. There was a "bathroom" attached to the room — it was a bare concrete cell with hot water only and a curtain separating it from the common area (no privacy whatsoever). Washbasin in the toilet... The best thing about Moonstar, is it's location. It is in the heart of Sultanahmet and only minutes walk from many of the major attractions in old Istanbul. Shops, cafes, restaurants are all on your doorstep. The staff are helpful, although some are helpful with a hint of resentment. The view from the terrace is amazing, and with free breakfast... More

I stayed in Moonstar for about a week with a big group of female. the location is one of the best thing that help you to easily find many places to eat. and in front of the hostel there are more than 3 grocery shops that you can buy drinks n chips with a cheaper price compared to if u... More

Hello there, I was with a big group of people from different countries. I must say the location is excellent. About the bed, they are good , the views of the terrace were really nice while you are having a water pipe or just have breakfast. The people are nice and friendly all the time. I really recommend to come... More

The best thing about Moonstar is its location in the heart of Sultanahmet. From here, the historical attractions of Istanbul are only steps away. The guys running the hostel are pretty nice and helpful and the breakfast included in the room's price is more than enough to start the day. I stayed in the double room at the basement and... More

Moonstar is located on a street with a bunch of other hotels and restaurants just steps from the best sights in Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Beds have curtains which is nice. If you want to read some more about the historic sites in Istanbl, check out a post I did on my travel blog, http://www.theworldorbust.com/byzantium-no-constantinople-dammit-istanbul/

Summary: Unhelpful and unprofessional staff. Felt unsafe staying here. Wished I could have cut my stay at Moonstar short. The staff were neither helpful nor professional. All three staff live (read: sleep) onsite, the night staff in an empty bed in my room, the other two in the lounge. Two of them openly smoke in the reception and common area... More

Great staff that are super helpful. They made us free food, free hookah, and fun dancinng! I would recommend this hostel for both a quiet visit or to have a good time.

I went to Istanbul with a few friends for 5 days and loved the Moonstar Hostel. The staff were very friendly and were eager to help us discover Istanbul. The breakfast was wonderful, and the roof top terrace was awesome. It is a smaller hostel, so we were able to interact with the other guests. It was one of the... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
