The May Hotel is not as good as its description but the exaggerations just seem to be the Turkish way! It is still a good hotel for a base to visit Istanbul. It may not look entirely like the photographs nor will it have the balcony room, the terrace and bar you imagine from the description, and the dark, derelict-looking... More

Stayed here in late august 2014.Hotel is ok ,but were put in a very small room on first night and I mean VERY small ,double bed squeezed into space six inches bigger than bed itself. Room just bigger than the bed, not as booked. Given the room we booked next day, Smallest shower I have ever seen , had to... More

If you are from England and you see that this hotel has been rated 4 and 1/2 stars, do not be fooled that does not mean it is very high standards and lovely comfy bed. It would be your average 3 stars. There are A LOT of ups and downs for instance… My family had booked a 'family room' and... More

As we checked out Trip Advisor before going it was a great help. Handy getting taxi, the driver found May Hotel quite quickly, road was closed at bottom but we just walked up. Might have been awwkward to find by yourself. Fruit shops, cafes usual delicious Turkish food nearby. Certainly lots of shoes shops top of street. Street a bit... More

The May Hotel is exactly what you'd expect for the price, rooms were clean and well sized, the staff were really helpful with directions and always on hand to help. Our double room had a desk, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a safe, with a clean but basic toilet/shower room. Breakfast was included but we tended to avoid it. The... More

I did not stay here, thank goodness. After having been dropped two blocks away by the airport shuttle bus I announced myself at the desk with a confirmed reservation. In very broken English I was informed I could not be accommodated. Another guest had fallen ill and I would have to get a taxi. I had no intention of doing... More

Very friendly staff, this hotel´s located in a vibrant area. Very clean room but small...but hey: when you´re visiting Istanbul for the 1st time, you´re not spending more hours then a good nights sleep in your hotelroom!! And you´ll get it here: new, nice bed. The prayer might wake you up early in the morning, but that only adds to... More

The May hotel as others have stated are a short distance to the Grand Bazaar, and other old city attractions. That said, it is in a working class neighborhood which can be different than what would be expected. We always felt safe, even at night, but then we are from Philadelphia and used to the city life. The rooms are... More

The May Hotel is fairly central for the main sights of Istanbul. The Grand Bazaar, Spice Market, Basilica Cistern, Blue Mosque Topkapi Palace and, Aya Sofya, are all in fairly close walking distance from the hotel but be warned there are some very steep hills to climb away from the hotel. The hotel is in an old fashioned working district... More

Istanbul was our third stop of our trip. We were looking forward to a great hotel as the reviews stated, but were disappointed rather quickly. When we first arrived we were shocked at the neighborhood, how could such a highly rated hotel be in an area that was quite sketchy. As a woman staying by yourself or with girlfriends, I... More
