This hotel is on Sultanahmet, and is an excellent location for tourists. It is just across the square from the Blue Mosque, Iya Sofya, and the Basilica Cistern, right near a tram stop, and within walking distance of the Grand Baazar 👍 The staff are really friendly and helpful, and you are always made to feel welcome (even when h... Couldn't ask for a better located hotel. Good staff. Ended up running into 1 door guy at a bar and had some beers with him. Next night stayed up with another, I had a beer while we just hung out talking. Cafes, shops, monuments all withing a stones throw. Just a perfect spot to stay in town. Felt safe at... More

Stayed here with my boyfriend, and really enjoyed our stay. Room was very small but air con worked well and it was clean with wifi working in rooms. Amazing view of aya sofya from the restaurant balcony! The hotel really could not have been located better- blue mosque, cisterns, aya sofya are literally across the road. Surrounded by other restaurants... More

This was our final stay in Turkey, and it was a quick one so we did not get much time to feel the place out. The hotel staff were helpful and accommodating. The room itself was ok, but it smelled bad. Like, outhouse bad. Again, this was a quick night, out early in the morning. We had the chance to... More

Hidden gem on one of the side streets of Istanbul, walking distance to Hagia Sophia and Sultan Ahmet mosque. Excellent location but be prepared to talk from main road with your luggage. Very small rooms but the friendly staff especially Khader, location and several restaurants near the hotel made up for the size of the room. Good for a days... More

We loved our stay at Ares! Took us a minute to get used to the tiny size of our room, but once we settled in we were indeed home. The elevator is also the tiniest little box I have ever ridden in, but so clean and quaint. And the little, well tiny, balcony with the rooftop views, we enjoyed with... More

The Ares was a series of hits and misses for us. It's tucked away on a walking street, so someone meets you on the street and takes your bags up past a number of restaurants. It is a fantastic, central location, but the desk people are a bit disorganized. We always take a hotel business card in case we get... More

I priced many hotels around the tram stop in Sultanahmed and they had a great deal at about $80 US dollars a night for a triple. The terrace view of Hagia Sophia is just outstanding and it is open 24 hours and hey sell drinks but you can also bring your own. The staff are very friendly! Limited English, but... More

Ares Hotel was worth a visit. Perfect location for trips to all the interesting sights in Istanbul and very quiet at night. Hotel rooms were nice. Staff, especially Mr Ayham was very helpful and understanding. Great breakfast too. Lots of restaurants around the hotel for dinner.

Ares Hotel was worth a visit. Perfect location for trips to all the interesting sights in Istanbul and very quiet at night. Hotel rooms were OK for that price, bed was comfortable and my room had an air conditioning unit which was perfect. Staff was very helpful and understanding. No comments on the breakfast because I did not take it.... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
