Stayed at the Shodlik Palace from June 14-21st; the hotel was the base hotel for teams from Uzbekistan, Russia, Khasikstan, Korea and of course GB, who were taking part in Uzbekistan's National Special Olympics.
The hotel was clean, air conditioned and the rooms were of good size and standard; staff were helpful and friendly, reception staff were helpful and spoke English, some fluent some broken, but hey I dont speak Uzbek.
Food was plentiful, not western cuisine, but tastey and edible. Drinks (including pop) can be expensive in the bar and dont get fresh orange - it is very expensive.
Ideally located for metro, which is easy to use/navigate and very cheap, which can get full at rush hour.
One tips for the currency exchange at the hotel, please remember to keep all receipts to exchange back as without them they will not change money back. Take clean us dollars, or they will not exchange, and change back before you leave for the airport. Airport...
