Considering the city, this hotel is a good option. The city is an expensive stay comparing to other places around Sri Lanka, so this one is a good value stay. It offers old but big rooms, lots of light, mini fridge, bathroom, balcony. Well, more than enough to rest after a long day walking. The owner is not a friendly... More

Our room was very spacious with a very big bed. It was clean and nice. There's a kettle, coffee and a bottle of water complimentary (daily replaced). The only problem was the bathroom.. It smelled really bad and the water pressure in the shower was very poor.. Breakfast is very good but served very slow (everything is fresh made). Hotel... More

This hotel is a good choice, reasonable price, good quality, close to many different places, walking distance from the train station but still quiet enough to sleep. Rooms are big and clean, good service. Restaurant is good; in fact, here was the best rice-and-curry-meal of whole trip in Sri Lanka!

Stayed in Colombo as a stopover on the way to Europe and wanted a cheap hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It is quite old and on a busy road but the room was excellent. It was airconditioned, had a comfortable bed, small lounge area and was clean and tidy.Water pressure at certain times left a bit to... More

We stayed here 3 times as we transited Sri Lanka...the rooms are big, airy and air conditioned. The price is reasonable and the service and food is good... This is not 5 star but does not pretend to be and does not charge that way. This is an honest place delivering good, food, rooms and service for a reasonable price.... More

Just stayed at Shalimar and found it ok. Paid a very reasonable price for an air-conditioned room. think it's worth paying the extra for the Deluxe room. Had room 118 which was fine. Service was ok, and the guys in the restaurant were great and very attentive. Prices for alcohol and food in the restaurant are very reasonable, and it... More

After staying in this hotel I discovered several bedbug bites on my body. I am fairly sure I got them in the Shalimar (room 209?) as it was our first night in Sri lanka and I discovered the bites on the next day. Staff was friendly and arranged for a very early check-in so that we could get some sleep,... More

As a hotel, guest comments are very valued. After your mention of bed bugs we thouroughly checked the room and found no trace whatsoever. We did however find tropical red ants who are attracted to sweets and tend to bite causing painful red swells. This is a common thing in Sri Lanka, due to our tropical weather even if a... More

The problem here is the staff and perhaps the owner too. We arrived ealy morning about 5 am after 2 day long trip... More

Stayed at the Shalimar for 2 nights when we went to the Sri Lanka v South Africa cricket match and what a great find. The hotel is a short tuk-tuk ride from the train station and handy for the Premadasa stadium. The room were large, clean and comfortable. A fridge was a welcome addition, the tv had cable channels and... More

It's an old, classic sort of hotel..we got good price for this. Large clean room. TV and minibar provided. Very helpful staffs. Nice dining and selection of menus available for guests. No complaints so far.
