We have spent several days in the new building (north side of Peace Ave) and were fortunate enough not to be bothered too much (heard several fresh stories about travelers bothered by being suddenly moved to other - and very bad - locations just out of the blue in the middle of their stay and for the same price). The... more

Ulaanbaatar is a fascinating city, but not always the easiest one to be in. The traffic is crazy, the air quality (particularly in winter, when the surrounding Ger-dwellers start to burn whatever is to hand for heating) can be pretty abrasive, and the stories of petty crime/theft are rife. This is not to say it's not a fun and interesting... more

We were in Hostel Zaya in Ulan Bataar, during four nights. We were in a double room with bathroom, and those rooms are not in principal building, they are in a separate building crossing Peace Avenue. We were in a big double room, but it was very dirty. One of the beds, had big stains, we think they were from... more

Zaya's is NOT an international standard hotel; it's a hostel where you meet other travelers and share stories around the breakfast table. However, they do have private rooms with their own washroom, in addition to shared facilities. All have hardwood floors and are kept extremely clean (shoes off at the front door!). Zaya is extremely helpful; she arranged train station... more

Zaya has two hostels, we stayed in No 2. We stayed in a private en-suite room but dorms are available. Rooms were clean and there is a nice shared sitting room with kitchen area. Breakfast is simple but adequate with some variety from day to day. Free internet access is available either on the hostel computer or wireless if you... more

Only meeting Zaya would be already worth it ! She's a great person. You will never forget your long chats with her about any philosophical subject. She will do everything and even more to organize any trip you would intend to do. The hostel is right in the center of the City, but not on the main street, so it... more

Great place, unlike any other (I've stayed in a number of hostels and low-end UB places). as other reviewers know, Zaya is incredibly nice and smart, as are her daughters who often help out. they have all lived abroad, in Europe and the US (and even N Africa), so easily relate with visitors to Mongolia. Zaya's tends to get repeat... more

It is very clean, quiet, comfortable, famous place. Reasonable rate. Modern bathrooms. Bedrooms have hard-wood floors, new furnishings and fresh linen. The management prefers semi-long-term residents so you are sure to meet an interesting crowd of people here. Zaya speaks English, Russian and Chinese and her assistance gets high marks from travellers. Zaya is very helpful and provide travel-related services:... more

Clean, comfortable, modern and well priced accommodation, with staff who were outstanding in their helpfulness and friendliness. We stayed in the apartmet block off Peace Avenue (there is another building with dormitory accommodation) Easy internet access. Lots of big, modern shared bathrooms, with choice of shower or bath. Breakfast simple but ample (porridge and toast included). Laundry done while you... more

We strayed for 2 nights at Zaya's whilst travelling on the Trans-Siberian. It was excellent. Zaya picked us up from the station, spoke excellent English and was most helpful pointing things out to see and giving advice on Ulan Bator. The room was clean and comfortable, the free breakfast more than adequate, and the location perfect for a easy walk... more
