I stayed at the UB Hotel numerous times in the 90s, and returned in April for a few nights. Not much had changed! An important thing to know about the UB is that the single rooms are really just that - a single bed, with a tv, bathroom and small desk. If you are staying for anything longer than one... more

The UB hotel touts itself as a five-star hotel. Other travelers make the point that the place doesn't measure up to western standards of such a grade--it doesn't....but within a country that is still struggling to develop fundamental urban infrastructure, it does a valiant job. The reception staff were pleasant, uniformed doormen were always there to greet us and promptly... more

Stayed at this property for three nights in October. Absolutely no wow factor. Have to concur with many posters on this forum with regards to hot water (always scalding), location, and extremely small rooms for a "5" star hotel. Very obvious in architecture that this was a former Soviet hotel. As far as service, there was little interaction with any... more

Iwasn't able to book using the hotel's own webste, so I had to contact a local travel agent in UB. Overall, I think tat this property is trying hard to boost its image/customer service. I arrived late at night and was welcomed by both a uniformed bellhop and a nice front desk staffperson. Standard single rooms are small, but contain... more

Everybody should have been in a former soviet hotel... The boring face of the building, the long dark corridors, etc. We stayed here for two separate nights (before/after visiting a yurt camp in Terelj National Park...great experience!). The location is great...despite the burnt out building next to the hotel. The main square can be reached in 5min. Don't take the... more

I'm a corporate pilot, and see the whole world with the guy i fly for. I realize not everything is perfect, especially in poorer countries. But this place stinks. It is touted at a 5 star hotel, but, it's bad. They do not vacuum the rooms. I'm here fo 6 days, and not once. I finally had to ask the... more

We stayed at the Ulaan Baatar Hotel on July 7,8, and 12,13, 2008. It is located conveniently in central UB. While next door to the recently burned Communist Party HQ, it was unaffected physically by the riot on July 1. Their claim of being a five star hotel is a bit of an exaggeration, but a nice hotel nevertheless. We... more

Well situated in centre of Ulaan Bataar this is a nice, quiet hotel. Our room was a decent size, comfortable and very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful with generally good English. Breakfasts good, dinner OK. Maybe not 5* by western standards but certainly a good place to stay. more

I've just returned from a five night stay at the Ulaanbaatar Hotel. In short, whilst it may boast of being U.B's oldest 5 Star hotel, it really is not a "5 star" in the western sense of the word. If you come here expecting modern luxury you won't find much of it anywhere in U.B, let alone this hotel. The... more

Change appears to be afoot in Ulaanbaatar's oldest hotel, the aptly named Ulaanbaatar Hotel. A new general manager from the Philippines (Chito, a very nice fellow who introduced himself to us) arrived just days before we started a 6 night stay at this pleasant establishment and he seems intent on shaking the hotel up somewhat. In truth, the hotel, as... more
