This hotel is quite a "box of chocolates" you never really know what you are going to get with the rooms. There appears to be no consistency in its room maintenance. I was fortunate to be given a suite when I arrived. Everything mostly worked but had a rather dated bathroom. When we returned after our sojourn to the countryside,... More

This charmless Soviet era hotel has only it's central location going for it. The hotel is in desperate need of being torn down or at least closed for a total remake. The rooms and hallways are dingy, dark and smelly with cigarette smoke. Hotel guests ignore the no smoking room signs (or assigned to any room regardless of whether they... More

We stayed here twice during our recent trip to Mongolia. The hotel is an old classic that was rennovated about 8 years ago. It is tired and could use some updating, but it was very clean and the staff was excellent. Traffic in the city is horrendous, so the location makes it a good choice if you want to walk... More

We stayed in Ulan Baatuur hotel for several nights as part of a group tour.. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean, well furnished, modest, and ideally situated for tourists. The breakfast was excellent and the staffs happy to give us a packed breakfast on two occasions when we were departing very early in the... More

I had two, omen night stays here at either end of a tour to western Mongolia. As others have said its an old style soviet Hotel, that doesn't seem to have changed much since it became Mongolia's "first five star hotel". Its no longer a five star hotel by western standards of course, but I enjoyed my stay here. Its... More

The UB Hotel was built in 1961. It seems as though they've not done a thing to it since, and that's not necessarily a bad thing We stayed in a deluxe room, although for the size and sitting room it should have been called a one bedroom suite. We'd read that the hotel had served Russian dignitaries during the Khrushchev... More

After 36 hours on the train from Beijing a hot shower and some good food were very necessary. The UB hotel provided both plus comfortable beds, good wifi and good breakfasts. It's a Soviet era and style hotel but very very well located just off the main square.

I stayed here for three nights while on tour in Mongolia. The "UB" is well located for tours and/or business aound the capital areas which are just a few blocks and a quick walk away. The breakfast is good, a buffet with the standard "Western" style breakfast foods available. The rooms are spacious, the a/c works well, the toilet and... More

This was the first hotel ever built in Mongolia apparently and it appears they haven't laid a finger to it since. If you sit quietly in your room and look closely at the carpets you can almost see and hear the plots being formed by chain smoking, vodka drinking communists of a bygone era. It was also apparently the first... More

It's been a long time since the Ulaanbaatar Hotel was the top place in town. The carpets have absorbed the smell of many cigarettes and room service meals eaten in the rooms. But it's still a comfortable and quiet place to stay. The staff are good. The rooms have what you need. The location is very good. And there's a... More
