This hotel is very well located for exploring the city. It does not offer much in the way of amenities but it is classic Soviet Era stuff. Some great old photos in the hallways, worth taking a look. Room comfortable and clean, bathroom serviceable and clean, breakfast adequate with eggs cooked to order and an acceptable coffeeshop/bar on the main... More

The Ulaanbaatar hotel is a colonial style hotel, which, although in places needs a bit of repair, has a wonderful atmosphere and feel that here time moves more slowly. The rooms are very comfortable and everything worked fine, although not always the first time. The staff is very helpful and competent in a relaxed typically mongolian fashion. The breakfast is... Great location but that's it Sometimes the heater did not work (during the winter!!!!!) When I called the reception they said they can't do anything about it and got me extra blanket. And -21c degree weather it does not help much ...... don't want to go back there again ever

The Ulaanbaataar Hotel is "the first 5 Star Hotel in Mongolia." That may be so, but in 2014 it gets 3 stars at most. Peeling wallpaper, dubious plumbing, and leaky windows belie the rating. On the upside, there is something charming about this Soviet-style hotel with its heavy furnishings and sheets that don't quite fit the beds. Staff tried to... More

I'm sure there are nicer hotels in Ulaan Bataar (like, say, the Kempinski), but this is a great base for out and back exploration of Mongolia (and, as far as I can tell, there isn't any other kind). The rooms are large (actually, the three that we stayed in are really suites), the desk personnel helpful, they cheerfully change US... More

We based our Mongolia trip out of the UB Hotel, staying there for a couple days initially as we explored the city, then 1 night each to and from other areas of the country. First the good - the staff was very pleasant, and managed check-in, check-out, bag handling, and particularly our laundry needs extremely efficiently. The neither good nor... More

Like the other reviews say, this hotel is in a great location, but has some dated decor. I was there in Early March at end of winter and it was always warm and cosy inside. Staff were helpful and very nice, with good communication skills. Mongolia (like this hotel) maybe hasn't got the overservicing and ingenuine friendliness of other tourist... More

The location is hard to beat as it's only a few minutes walk to the main Square and bearing in mind the traffic in UB is terrible walking is a good thing. Other pluses were friendly staff, reasonable WIFI (though not on all floors and didn't work at all on the 2nd) and a good buffet breakfast. But the hotel... More

Despite of the fact this hotel was rated with 5 stars, everything about it (facade, interior design, room design, furniture) tells it is ageing and looks a bit lost among the newly built European type buildings surrounding it. The location is very good, though, just 5 min away from the Sukhbaatar Square. The room I had was quite small and... More

The Ulaanbaatar hotel typifies what happens to establishments that fail to change with the times and try to cash in on their past glories as long as they can. Located in the middle of the city, next to all major sights, the hotel occupies a large plot of land on the main street. The people are all friendly and helpful... More
