We stayed here for 2 nights in February 2009. The hotel is smart, on the banks of the river, but somewhat isolated from the city. To go out for a meal you would take a tuktuk (motorised tricycle) and it would take about 10 minutes to get to the central town area. The hotel has wifi in the lobby, but... more

This is a very large hotel overlooking the Mekong river. It is not a bad hotel but it is very impersonal. The rooms were good large and clean. We found the levels of service poor compared with other hotels in the region. Since we were departing very early the following morning most of our tour ate late afternoon. Friends that... more

We were supposed to stay at the Novohotel but it was changed when we arrived. Our guide said this was better..... The Chinese restaurant was pretty good. We were the only ones there and I swear they changed my plate every time I peeled a shrimp and fill my cup every time I took a sip. Wow it is difficult... more

When in Vientiane, one has stay at the Don Chan Palace. The views from the room alone make this hotel a must. The service is excellent--the staff could not do enough to make our stay unforgettable. Always polite and welcoming, the staff is simply the warmest that we have encountered. Everyone was extremely nice. The pool (which is partial indoors... more

This certainly is no palace!! Stayed there 2 nights a where extremely disappointed. Hotel is in aging! Rooms were is poor condition for the price they were charging. It is also poor located, a good distance from the town center. There are many better hotels in the center of town both in terms of price and quality. more

Well, where do I start? We decided to stay there cuz it was one of the newest hotel in town (figuring it should still be clean and functional). We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights at $100 per room/night. At that price in Vientiane, I expect an exceptional service. Breakfast was decent but the wait staff was rather rude. One... more

We made a last minute booking for 2 nights in December 2007. A review in a travel guide was not terribly complimentary but I have to say it is just like any very large international hotel (i.e. it is not a boutique hotel). Even though it was built only a few years ago it appeared that it is not being... more

We chose this hotel "in the blind" having arrived a day early (and the Settha Palace where we had reservations for the next day was fully booked.) [The Settha Palace is a 5 star facility; Don Chan Palace is supposedly a 3 star....but what a gem!] We were ecstatic with the gigantic suite; whirlpool tub; posh furnishings; immaculately kept; view... more

The Don Chan Palace was built for a Conference of the ASEAN countries and is the tallest building in Laos at 14 floors. It is actually on an island in the Mekong River connected by a man made causeway. The views are good, but hopefully it will not set a trend for further high-rise development in this sleepy Capital City.... more

15 Sept. 2007 Richard Jensen [room 1008] An excellent business hotel. Impressive building, convenient location approx. 5 minutes drive from the city centre. Hotel has all the relevant facilities and well appointed rooms. The sea food dinner I had in the Chinese restaurant was one of the best I had in the entire SE Asia. The reception staff .. specially... more
