was a little unsure about this hotel as there seems to be a lot of reviews whinging about the dated rooms. It is not that bad, it actually has some charm about it and we had a club room on the fourth floor and could not fault it. The club room does include canapés and drinks in the lounge between... Nothing much to say about this plain Jane hotel. Dont think there is much choice in the city and if you are having a short stay in town I guess this hotel will do. Rooms were clean but looked sparse and outdated, service was average.

We stayed over the weekend in a small boutique hotel while our son had a football tournament. That hotel was actually quite nice and when they realized that we are three, they gave us immediately an extra bed without any charge. After the tournament we stayed for another 3 days to explore Vientiane and I thought it is a good... More

This hotel is quite close to the Mekong River. Your usual lobby and my room was a typical business hotel room The breakfast was buffet style with hit and cold dishes on offer to suit most tastes. There was a pool area and a couple of tourist style shops in the lobby

I stayed there overnight. Unfortunately, it was by far one of the worst hotels at stayed in. The main issue I had with this hotel was not with the staff (which was not overly welcoming), but with the room itself. Walking into my room was like walking into a nightmare. The room was old, rundown and dingy. There was an... More

Situated along the road to the Wattay airport and close to the city center, Mercure Hotel (the former Novotel) offers friendly service, quality rooms and a relaxing swimming pool with bar and outdoor restaurant. The morning buffet is super quality! There used to be a sort of discotheque in the immediate neighborhood but I haven't heard about it anymore during... More

Has not been updated for decades. Desperately in need of new paint, fittings, furniture and atmosphere. Bedding clean, but curtains dirty. Geckoes in the room add "atmosphere". Half way between city and airport, but for more than a stopover, head to something better closer to the city centre. Not recommended unless desperate or for a brief stopover between flights.

I visit Vientiane a few times each year and decided to try the Mercure on my most recent visit. I will not be staying there again. Location is horrible: A little too far from the centre to walk in the heat and its difficult to get taxis; The rooms are ancient - dusty, no decoration, uncomfortable lumpy bed; Internet, while...
