The Celestial Mountains at Naryn is on the road into Kyrgyzstan from the Torugart Pass. It is about the only place on this road you would want to use.

It is in a refurbished Soviet block of flats inside a rather daunting compound on the edge of town.

Inside it is scrupulously clean. Our room was large and comfortable but basic. WCs, basins and showers are shared and in rather small compartments. There are plenty of them.

Dinner and breakfast were ample and good in a pleasant basement dining room.

Luxury it is not, but a perfectly acceptable place for a night's sleep and meals on a long journey.

Yurts are available in the compound.

It is owned by the same people as run the Silk Road Lodge in Bishkek. more
