I stayed my first night at the hostel. Well located. Great staff. I stayed in a mix dorm with bunk beds and bathroom. All clean. Is it true that there are other dorms with matress on the floor but still look very clean! They offered me the possibility to a pock up at the airport, wich I appreciated it and... More

Encounters is excellently run by the very friendly Robert. Our dorm was comfortable and the other residents most amicable. Robert offered streetwise advice on how to see Phnom Penh, the breakfast was excellent (the best beans on toast in the country) and he efficiently organised our onward travel to Hanoi. A simple, friendly guesthouse.

Stayed in the dorm with a fan the first night and this wasn't great as it was too hot and no curtains so the room was bright from early AM so couldn't sleep. Next night moved to a dorm with AC which isn't much more to pay. Bed was clean and very comfy. Staff are lovely and helpful. Owners mum... More

We stayed in a 4 person dorm with 5 pepole (one of us sleepung on a matress on the floor). The room was clean and free of bugs and everyone had a key. The bathroom was clean, too, but was shared with the whole floor, so that sometimes you had to stand in line. The air con in the room... More

Basic rooms with shared (clean) bathrooms, free laundry service and helpful personnel. We got very helpful tips and good conversations during our stay. Recommended for travelers on the shoestring. Due to lack of a bar harder to meet with fellow travelers it does have a good common area though.

The manager here is very friendly and helpful; giving no nonsense advice and offering a wide range of bus tickets etc. the dorms are clean with mosquito nets and individual fans for each mattress, in addition to lockers (byo padlock). Management offers a free laundry service and food/some drinks are also available. Encounters is set on a quiet street opposite... More

Coming from Vietnam, where all the hostels in this price range are immaculate, provide computers for guest use, a tv and fridge in the en-suite rooms and good value food, this was a bit of a culture shock. The place is a bit of a curates egg - good in parts - with the best parts being that it is... More

This hostel is a pretty good choice in Phnom Penh. It was fairly clean, the service was friendly and the location was alright. It's about a 5 minute walk to the waterfront. I remember the beds being a little uncomfortable but nothing to write home about. I met some cool people while I was there, so that's a plus.

I would agree generally with the majority of comments made about the hostel-to be honest it was a decent enough place-basic but good location. WARNING!!! When we first arrived we were told by Martin that we should not take our bags out at night as there had been a number of people who had had their bags snatched. On this... More
