I was in HCMC for one night. From reading various forums Vien Dong hotel looked like a good bet so I gave it a go. It is in a good location in District 1 opposite a park for those who like to have a morning or evening walk. There were many locals doing the same thing. Just be careful crossing... more

Great mid-sized hotel in a very central location, whether you are visiting HCMC for business or pleasure. Spotless rooms, very friendly and helpful staff, 5 minute walk to the Ben Thanh Market, 10 minute walk to the business centre of HCMC, close to bars and restaurants and a big shady park across the road which is ideal for people watching! more

One of the best hotels along the strip of better hotels next to the backpacker area. The inside rooms are nicely designed, modern and quiet. The outside rooms facing the park are large and well planned except for the cheap sliding doors which let in all the street noise, which, like most places in Vietnam is a constant problem. The... more

This place is clean and the rooms are ok but it's overpriced for what you get. If you're on a budget- I recommend staying in the Indochine hotel that is also in district 1. It's $40 a night compared to the Vien Dong which is about $80. The service staff at the front desk don't speak english very well and... more

My first preference was Elios Hotel since it received great reviews and is among the most popular hotels in HCMC according to the tripadvisor.com guests. However, I have no regrets being shifted to Vien Dong Hotel when our reservations for Elios could not be confirmed. Vien Dong Hotel is strategically located at the heart of HCMC; within walking distance from... more

The hotel is very simple, a 3 star probably. When we arrived at around 2 am, the person at the front desk had to be woken up by the guard. But rather than appear grouchy, the hotel staff was smiling and was very friendly. I expected a balcony as indicated in the website for deluxe rooms. However, I didn't have... more

Booked through Buffalo Tours, a good Vietnamese travel agency. Got a really good rate - about half of that offered at the hotel. Old hotel but mostly renovated (except for the restaurant). Room was clean and modern and had everything we needed for a 2 night stay. The staff at this hotel were very helpful. Great location as well, across... more

We stayed at the Vien Dong Hotel on 2 occasions - before and after our stay in Phan Thiet. The 1st stay was for 3 nights and the 2nd stay was for 2 nights. It is located on a well known road in the backpacker area of District 1 however it is in the 'classier' part of the backpacker area... more

This was the hardest city to select a hotel as they are either high end or backpacker hostels. Compared to some of the other comparably priced hotels we stayed in in Vietnam, this had to be the most boring of all the properties. However, it was centrally located, easy walking distance to all the sites and the breakfast was okay.... more

stayed at vien dong with a group last month. it was not a spectacular hotel, as it is located in the backpackers' district. was given a rather dull room at the back (partly my agent's fault, i guess. but that's another story). it was big enough and clean. very efficient housekeeping and helpful hotel staff. most of the staff were... more
