The Grand Hotel Saigon garners praise for its spacious rooms, noted for their large beds and impressive city and river views, as well as for a breakfast buffet that delights guests. While the rooftop bar's prices are a concern for some, the hotel's location wins universal acclaim for its proximity to local attractions. Guests love the historic charm and live music at the rooftop bar, though a few suggest the rooms could benefit from an update. The service is generally celebrated for being attentive, and the hotel's cleanliness is consistently applauded.

This hotel is situated in Ho Chi Minh City, close to the Saigon River, and boasts a French colonial style. The hotel's services aim to bring out a particular lifestyle, and the historical look of both the exterior and interior of the hotel contributes to this goal. However, the hotel is currently in the process of replacing its old and faulty furniture, such as the wardrobe. Additionally, I recommend dining out instead of using room service as the quality of food and beverages differs from what I experienced in Thailand.

The hotel is really well situated for seeing the main central sites but somehow did not quite hit the mark . The hotel is used by large tour groups ( of which I confess I was part of ) and this seems to detract from a true luxury experience - breakfast room is ridiculously crowded given number of people trying to eat at once so they can join their day tours ,service on the rooftop bar is chaotic and reception area comfortable and functional rather than relaxing. It’s some years since I was last in Ho Chi Minh and maybe all standards have fallen but this was not a patch on the hotel I stayed in last time

The hotel gets the one star rating because a) the WiFi does work and b) the two basic functions of a bed and shower are fulfilled. That's it. At the time of writing, the frills that you probably expect from a 5* hotel are noticeably missing. The TV is awful. SONY, yes, but built in 2011 and way past being watchable. I've now complained twice to no avail. The basic room is called deluxe. Nothing deluxe about ours (716). Two windows, one looking at a wall, one looking at an outdoor internal space which is lit by spotlights throughout the night. No problem, you might think. Except the curtains aren't blackout and the room remains illuminated. The curtains don't even wrap around the sides, so the spotlights illuminate your pillow all night. And then you want to put some stuff on the bedside table, but guess what? There's only one. So you have to move the bed to fit the coffee table in as a substitute. But you can't move it too far because all the lighting is controlled by a panel which is hard wired into the wall behind the bed. Bizarrely, there are two uncomfortable armchairs but no sofa, so TV watching is really only comfortable from the bed. Breakfast was a new low for me for any hotel of any star rating We didn't go back for Day 2. The small pool was OK. There's a bar and Happy Hour, where for a beer, instead of paying 10x the price available outside, you only have to pay 5x. Thought we'd give the 20th floor rooftop café a whirl. Unbelievably, two of the house wines are out of stock. At the price being charged, they could pop next door to the 7-11 and get some in. It's a bog standard lower shelf wine in any UK supermarket and freely available in HCMC. The staff have attitude, which is surprising based on our experience in the country. To sum up, over-staffed and under-managed. This has not been a good experience.

Great location, friendly staff, good breakfast. Do not accept a room on the 19th floor though. You will be woken at 6am by scraping and banging as furniture in the roof bar is dragged around and rearranged. You will also be subjected to the live music from the 20th floor, whether you want to or not. It’s incredibly loud.

We had a good stay here. The pool is lovely - it is open air but enclosed in a courtyard and lovely to use. The rooftop bar is great with wonderful views. There seemed to be music on most evenings. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby so location good too.

Lovely hotel well situated in Saigon. River is short walk away and it’s close to other sites in the city. The room was clean and comfortable, in room tea and coffee making facilities. Good selection at buffet breakfast in large dining room, had to hunt about to find everything on offer. Roof top bar gives fine views of the city.

First time in Vietnam, lovely hotel before our river cruise. Staff were super friendly and helpful when we needed help. Room was a bit worn and dated but it made it part of the colonial look ! All clean and tidy though. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice including omelette cooked to order. Staff topped up tea and coffee promptly. Good position for exploring the city

Pleasant hotel, central and easy access to most areas. Many restaurants and cafes near by. The hotel is definitely not 5*, the bedrooms although spacious with reasonable amount of storage are tired and dated and in need of redecoration. The restaurant is light and appears to have a good choice of food at breakfast catering for all nationalities. The view from one of the windows is unpleasant - green wall and pipes, blinds would be a good idea! The roof top bar is pleasant in the evening ( great views over the river and city)but prices are vastly inflated! Make use of happy hour or go elsewhere! We had a pleasant stay but stayed in far better hotels for a lot cheaper on our tour of Vietnam.

The hotel was built in 1930 and I expected it would have more cachet. The rooms are a bit worn out. My first room was right next door to a room used for very loud parties, so I asked to change after the first night. I was given another room, with the promise it would be much quieter, but it turned out it was right under the same party room, so the second night was also tough. Fortunately, there was no party the third night. Staff were friendly when I complained but did not help out much. The room was expensive so I was disappointed by the experience and will not go back to this hotel.

This hotel was incredibly noisy. We were in the ancient wing, which was very pretty, but there was a club across the road and the sound of the base reverberated through the room all through the night. This went on every night even mid week. The staff were not particularly friendly, and we had the manager come and have a go at us because our children (6 and 8) were in the swimming pool on their own, with us watching from the side. He felt that they should have armbands on (which they haven’t worn since they were 3) and that we should be in the pool with them. Our children live in Australia and are in the water every day and are extremely competent swimmers so we did not appreciate being told off about the safety of our children when we were very comfortable. The guest services desk was very rarely manned, and they didn’t give advice or recommendations. Whilst the rooms were large and well configured for a family, the beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable.
