This hotel got a bum rap in Lonely Planet and Frommers, but it's a nice hotel with a vintage feel to it. The complimentary breakfast buffet has good western food, including omelets. It's in a perfect location for exploring the tourist and shopping area of Saigon, District One. It's right next to the opera house, so it's easy to tell... more

Graham Greene stayed here. As did various other luminaries. The Continental has a storied past, which is evident in the photos that dot the walls of the lobby. Although clean, imposing and perfectly serviceable, it is clear that the hotel survives to a great extent on its past – there is a kind of mildly shabby gentility about it from... more

This hotel would pass as a 3 star hotel in most cities. While the location is very good in the heart of the upmarket district and most of the staff speak English, the building and rooms are very tired, looking a bit like something from the 1970's. On the plus side, the rooms are very large, with the basic room... more

I stayed at Hotel Continental for 3 nights in April 2009. On the good side: The rooms are big and clean. We had a balcony facing the Opera House which was great. The bathrooms are out-dated but ok. The breakfast buffet was delicious. The best thing was the staff, we had an emergency situation where we had to get a... more

This is a luxury hotel with character. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite, so if your budget can take it it is well worth the extra. It's a colonial building looking onto the Opera House. The bedroom was outstanding. Huge and airy and not too noisy. Ho Chi Minh is one of the noisiest cities we've... more

I changed to Continental from an other 4 star hotel on the main boulevard after paying $300 for 2 nights stay in a small and aged room with a small tv, an on-off AC and broken Internet. In comparison the Continental is superb. I got an Oriental Suite for a promotional price of $149 a night and for me it... more

We splashed out for some comfort but the things it did have, such as a lounge- you didn't really need. The things you wanted like a pool- the hotel didn't have! Most other hcmc high end hotels offer this- which is very desirable after a long day in the sweltering heat. There is an element of grandeur but it all... more

Unfortunately, I think this hotel is like most of the top hotels in Ho Chi Minh. For 70-100 US dollars, this would have been an acceptable three star in Hungary but for $150 a night, there was dodgy a/c, the beds were made of iron as were the pillows, covered in poly-mix sheets, the bathrooms were last updated during the... more

On an earlier visit to HMC we stayed at the Caravelle Hotel. Nice corporate style hotel, not great, and fairly sterile. Small restaurant for breakfast and tiny reception foyer. On our next trip we decided to stay at the Continental which is just across the square. It's old, but it was fantastic. We booked a room that overlooked the Opera... more

Yes ... it is an historical building... Yes it is well located in Saigon... BUT... this hotel need an URGENT and major "up to date" / renovation !! We stayed there for 4 nights at the end of a 2 months trips in South Asia (Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam). The last hotel of our trip and... unfortunately... the worst... more
