We found out about this hotel from a fellow traveler on the airplane from Nha Trang. Because we didn't have a reservation anywhere when we got into HCMC we decided to check it out. The hotel itself is in a small alley in District 1, about a block away from the heart of the backpacking district and very close to Pho 24 and the ABC bakery. The alley itself gives you a good view of life in Saigon and the vendors there charge fair prices, no overcharging the foreigners! Hoang Phong is clean and has all you will need for around $20/night...plenty of hot water, a fridge with amenities, air conditioning, free internet, and breakfast. The staff are excellent. The owner went out of her way to call her mother so that my fiance and I could have the perfect English - Vietnamese translation when we visited a temple. If you are looking for a good value and want a few amenities that the backpacker hotels do not offer this is a great choice. I would definitely stay again. more
