Especen was quite a reasonable hotel at 15 USD a night for a souble bed with private shower. The air conditioner worked well and we had satellite tv. The bed was not very clean, we kept finding stray hairs that were not ours. But the floors and bathrooms were cleaned every day. The hotel is located on a quiet street... more

We stayed here for three nights and found it to be better than expected for $15 a night. The room was small, and the bathroom microscopic, so I'd say it's worth paying a little bit more if you want a bigger room. The hotel staff were always friendly and did try to help as much as possible, although do make... more

I stayed here for 2 nights on suggestions from the trip advisor forum - I had prebooked on their website including a transfer from the airport where I was met and with no problems and had a warm welcome at the hotel. I had room 104 which was on the 1st floor which was fairly basic but clean and comfortable,... more

great little hotel, stayed here for 3 nights & was excellent. only bad point was the trip i booked through the hotel to go to ha long bay, which didnt live up to the expectations with a shoddy hotel on cat ba island. book your trips outside the hotel, dont use this hotel for booking them as you can get... more

The Especen were charging the same for a double/twin room ensuite as Downtown Backpackers (opposite) were charging for a dorm bed at the time we visitied, so whilst it's not the coolest and most sociable place to stay (there is no communal area/bar etc), it was luxury to have such a lovely room. There are plenty of bars and even... more

The best area i would say. It is real of Old quater of Hanoi. I stay here because of this great area. Unlike other old quater of hanoi streets, but this area is the best. Peoples here are decent. The owner seem decent too. I feel very safe here. I end up to stay here long term. So if you... more

We chose this hotel after reading these reviews and the lonely planet. Firstly do not confuse this place with the other hotel with the same name, check the address. The hotel was close to the cathedral and other main stuff. The room was nice, clean double bed and a fridge and Cable TV. English channels - we watched films one... more

Located on the following street parallel to the one Hanoi Backpackers Hostel is located, this hotel has private double rooms for a bit less money than other hotels in the area. Good location, clean and roomy. Well recommended more

I just returned from Hanoi (where I stayed at 5 different hotels in the same price range $20.-$30.), and my stay at the Especen at 28 Tho Xuong was outstanding! I was very tired of door handles that came off in my hand, windowless rooms, noise, etc. Then I just happened to walk into the Especen, and I was immediately... more
