Basic three star hotels with no major frills, apart from a big pool (which serves also as public pool for the southern part of Hanoi Old Town and is very busy in the early morning and late evening). Rooms are reasonably clean, have AC, a fridge/minibar, TV with BBC/CNN. Free wireless internet, quite fast. Breakfast not exciting, but sufficient mixture... more

We stayed at Army Hotel and found it most awful. The internet booking was very slow and we had no reply for almost a week. When we arrived we were met by a most arrogant and inpolite staff that did not care much about that our safe and tv did not work. The pool is open to the public and... more

Quiet hotel with large gardens and pool in process of complete WiFi overhaul (free WiFi, by the way). Next to the Opera and the Champs-Elysees of Hanoi but very good value for money. Reception speaks fluently French and English. Large and well furbished rooms and bath rooms. It used to be the headquarters of the French Army before 1954. It... more

This property was clean and comfortable. The room that we were assigned was large; however the furniture and decor was straight out of the Stalin Era. It does need a bit of renovations; however it didn't bother me too much. It was basic and for a basic price I couldn't complain. The pool area is nothing special. It reminded me... more

The rooms vary wildly as far as furnishings go and some are quite bizarre (Soviet style). We stayed in a couple of their suites on two separate occasions and they were OK for the price paid. I would recommend you ask to see all they have available when you show up at the reception. Staff is friendly/indifferent and the breakfast... more

I was told about the Army Hotel by a friend who frequently stays in Hanoi. I was a little bit affraid to stay in some military compound but that was not the case. The property, belonging to the Army, has a good situation near the history museum and a few steps from the Opera and the Sofitel Metropole. While walking... more

Desperate for a pool to escape the unrelenting heat in Hanoi, we ditched our usual hotel and opted for the Army Hotel. It was surprisingly good and not at all like boot camp with only the occasional uniformed 5-star something wandering around looking important to remind you of the hotel's military connection. The substantial pool is excellent, set in a... more

When we needed a place to stay due to unexcepted difficulties in Hanoi we found the Army Hotel a great place to drop. It was wonderful to think of the high ranking military officals who might have once used the room we were in. However don't expect luxury it was a bit run down though clean and very servicable. We... more

My wife and 2 sons stayed here for 3 nights during a trip through Vietnam. I primarily booked this hotel because of its location in the old quarter, it has a large swimming pool and also it appeared to be good value for money with breakfast included in a reasonable tariff. I believe the hotel is owned by the military... more

My Vietnamese counter part booked this hotel for our team claming that it was accessibled for disabilities people. however, it was not many of my team had to help one of my team memeber who is disabled (using wheel chair to) to enter the hotel (there are many steps). Although the room is very nice (french colonial building), though the... more
