We arrived at the hotel was immediately taken upstairs to club lounge for welcome drinks whilst staff were checking us in. They were very welcoming and commutative. We were then taken to our executive suite which was heavenly amazing. It was big, luxurious and extremely comfortable. They had cocktails every night from 7 –9pm and being in the club lounge... more

If you are planning on staying in Hanoi this is the hotel to stay at, it has history and is graced with an excellent location in the French quarter but you do however, need to book the historic metropole wing as the opera wing lacks character and history. The rooms in the historic wing retain their French colonial charm and... more

This is one of the great hotels in Asia, with a location to die for! This should be one of the flag bearers for the Sofitel chain! The hotel building has been lovingly restored and is one of the finest hotels I have stayed in! The rooms in the old wing are a bit pokey, but they are the original... more

We spent four nights in a standard room in the Opera wing in early May, at the beginning of the monsoon season. Quite enjoyed the hotel but have a few comments: Our (not inexpensive) room was small, or compact if you want to be nicer. More what I would expect in Europe than Asia. The newish Opera wing was run... more

Unbeliebale hotel. From the rugged streets, filled with motorbikes, and the smells of a Vietnam city, entering the Metrople is like entering nirvana. The hotel itself speaks to another time, with rich colonial traditions, antiques, etc. And the Bamboo Bar, a bar lcoated outside, where the staff wraps you in blankets during evening hours, is like nothing else I have... more

We stayed in this hotel in March 2009 in a club room in the opera wing. The room was just beautiful. The furnishings were top notch and the bathroom was amazing - particularly the claw-foot bath. The service in this hotel is faultless - there's even someone in the fitness room to hand you towels and water and wipe down... more

This is one of those hotels you should try at least once. I would recommend that if you are the least bit interested in historic buildings and hotels that you stay in the original hotel side. I was given a tour of every major suite on both the new and old sides by my "butler" Hung. The historic suites, Charlie... more

The room was incredibly comfortable and I couldn't have asked for more. Same with the facilities, i.e. the fitness center and the pool. I was disappointed by the attentiveness of the waitstaff, particularly by the pool. Also, at risk of sounding crude, the hotel staff spoke pretty poor English for this being one of the top hotels in Hanoi. Lastly,... more

I'm not sure about this being "the best hotel ever", but it's certainly a great place to stay in Hanoi. First of all, it's perfectly located... at the heart of the French quarter. Secondly, there's all the history. The fact that one of the greatest novelists of all time, Graham Greene, stayed down the hall is certainly something of a... more
