A cut above in quality and service. I arrived here after riding a motorbike from Vinh covered in mud and freezing and was taken in hand. They have good hot water and real baths friendly service and don't badger you for tours or extras. The concierge even organised to wash my motorbike for a very reasonable 25k. A safe, hairdryer,... The rooms at gecko 2 are really nice and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Included in the very reasonable room price was the best breakfast anywhere during our 5 weeks travelling! Lots of advice on where's good to go in Hanoi was available. We also booked a Ha Long bay tour through the hotel for a reasonable price.... More

We arrived mid morning to hanoi without booking accommodation (I know, not normally how I do things) & found this after looking at a few over priced rooms. Basic clean hotel-service made it an extra nice. Had already booked tours, trains etc so didn't have any problems with staff being pushy for tours. Pros Staff were very friendly Breakfast was... We (couple, 31 yrs old) stayed at the Hanoi Gecko 2 hotel for a total of 5 nights during our stay in Vietnam. The hotel is located smack bang in the middle of the old quarter. Five minutes walk to the lake, plenty of places around for food and drinks. The rooms we had (701, 703, 401, 403) were all... More

I have been meaning to write this review for some time because of how unhappy I was with with this place. But let's just start with the positives for now: decent rooms, pretty clean, centrally located, free cooking class (well, not really a class, more watching people cook and a giant rat run across the counter, but for free it... I stayed here on my last 3 days in Hanoi. This was the first hotel to charge me extra for my Vietnamese friend who was traveling with me. After staying out late, I woke up at 6am to someone hammering away non-stop next door to me! Their was construction going on. I went downstairs and complained nicely requesting a new... More
