The Mermaid hotel is the worst hotel I have not stayed in. I walked in to my 'Sea View' Room to discover that there was no Sea View and also that the room smelt of cigarettes and urine. There were several dead cockroaches under the bed and the color scheme matched only the smear of dead bugs blood on the concrete... the staff are not polite, the rooms are a bit shaby, our room had a bit of a bad smell at times (no it wasn't me) the pool near the fan rooms wasn't very clean, I would advise against renting a motorbike from the Mermaid Hotel the young lady on reception told me they would hold my passport as a... We stayed here because it was the cheapest option - 600 baht for a fan only room. We liked that the room had wifi and a mini fridge (so nice in thailand where your drinks go lukewarm in seconds). We really enjoyed the fact that there are two well maintained pools, one of which faces the ocean. We spent the... More

Stayed at this resort about 10 times. Great place,,location, beach, value, roadside restaurant good, DOLPHIN RESTAURANT FOOD APPALLING,at the beach side. 3 times now in last year, suprise is that its the thai food thats terrible. Even thai friends have sent tom yam soup back. No balance in flavours. Unedible. Apart from that its a good place.

If you are looking for a budget place to stay, then this is a pretty good option, especially if you are planning to go to full moon party, as the pier is very close by. However if you've come to Samui to relax and enjoy a few nights of better then average resort, then this place will probably dissapoint you.... More

We recently stayed here for nearly a week. It is set up like a true resort- 2 pools, 2 restaurants and nicely landscaped. The place is decent, and at 600 baht for a fan room it's a steal (for samui). Wifi works great all over the resort, the rooms are clean, and the food is probably the best in the... More

Ended up staying here by accident and was pleasantly surprised. Nice little resort in Ban Rank. Good restaurant which does Thai and western food. The american breakfast is great value for money. 140 baht for eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, tea or coffee, orange juice and fruit platter. Nice friendly staff. The cheap fan rooms (600 baht a night) are cleaned... More

If you are expecting a 5 star resort look somewhere else but if you are looking for a cheap, place to spend a few nights by the pool and close to the pier then this is your place! we booked this hotel through during high season and were happy that the prices weren't ridiculously high like some other places on... I had just discussed with my sister what sort of person complains about a hotel when it is actual fact perfectly nice. This one is worth complaining about. We booked two nights at this hotel. The pictures are absolutely misleading. The rooms reeks of smoke, there's a massive gap in the door for mosquito's and cockroaches, and the shower points... More

If you are about to book this, you are in the same situation I was this time last year, when looking at tripadvisor I found it difficult to judge what this hotel would be like, this is what I wish I had read: The rooms are dirty, cockroaches seem to run freely around the place (I am pretty sure I...
