We got a double room with a/c and hot shower for 500bt and within a 2 min walk if the Taphae Gate and very close to both the Saturday and Sunday market. The room was basic and dated but did the job. The couple who run it seemed very nice at first but we soon realised that no matter what... More

This simple guest house has all you need for the price.. A clean room great staff and very helpful.I stayed here years ago and was glad to see they have enlarged the building and added rooms. I would stay here again. we felt very safe and an easy walk to the Sunday walking street market.

This place is nothing to write home about but it's clean and the owners are a lovely family. Very helpful and friendly and the place felt very safe (important to a solo female traveler) + 400 thb for a room with hot water is pretty decent.

It isn't the newest and flashiest of places but it's reasonably priced. Rooms are spacious and you get hot water. There's a TV in every room and the bed was OK. Not the comfiest we've had but we slept well on it for five nights. The fan was definitely enough for us in Chiang mais cool nights of December. The... More

Rooms are a bit dated but for the price (500b for hot water and air conditioning) it was more than adequate, the owners are really great and were more than happy to go above and beyond in helping us out whenever we needed directions or even a translator to call around for us! They helped us book our future travel... More

The rooms are basic and need a little air but good value. The owners were very helpful and it was cheaper to book a tour through them than an agent. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. There is also a great bar across the street called so cool with very cheap drinks!

Though the rooms are incredibly basic, you are in Chiang Mai and don't really need dedicated that much. The owners, who speak very good English, are always up for a chat. They also will assist with what to do in Chiang Mai and how to do it, with out the focus on gaining commission like so many do. Most things... More

This place is in the heart of Chiangmai and all the best places are nearby. It has been family operated for many years. The security is great. No tv or other features but does has air con rooms and fan rooms. I have been going there for many years and will always return. The prices are also reasonable.

the Somwang guest house is located in Soi 2, quite central but somehow it is quite and calming. The place is run by husband, wife and son, all of them very friendly. I recommend the rooms upstairs but be careful, the first one I was given had tons of ants creeping out of the ceiling and it was rather bad,... More

Somwang Guest House. Stayed there during Songran Festival in April 2011. Family owned, very polite and friendly lady owner. She, her husband and son speak very good English. They also have travel service available, but they do not push you to book with them. Compare prices before you book. Central location! 3 minutes walk from Thapae Gate, yet surprisingly quiet!...
