I have stayed in many guesthouses in Chiang Mai and have to honestly say that Baan Kiri always will be the number one for me. Guest house location is set further away from the city centre, right at the foot hill of the Doi Suthep mountain. This is actually a big advantage if you want to experience the real Thailand... More

There are many places to stay in Thailand with tasteful decor, good maintenance, and a peaceful garden (well maybe not that many...) but Baan Kiri has all this as well as a welcoming offer of friendship and compassion. The owner Tom is very flexible and available to meet his guests needs. He will show you the real Chiang Mai including... More

Having waited over a month before posting, I can now be confident that I am being as objective as possible. This place is like Marmite /Vegemite -you will either love it or hate it . Personally I loath Marmite/Vegemite and thoroughly detest Baan Kiri. The reason is not merely because raw effluent from sinks/showers etc. is discharged into the river... More

The client booked the room in February and requested it for 6 months starting end of April. The month before, the client asked to change the booking from 6 months stay to 6 weeks stay. Even though I lost the opportunity to accept other reservations for the booked room from other clients, I accommodated this client and agreed to rent... More

Baan Kiri is a beautiful tranquil spot outside the city centre with a view of the mountains. The garden is gorgeous, creating a lovely environment to relax, read and listen to the birds and enjoy the warmth of Thailand. I highly recommend taking sometime to talk with Tom the owner as he is a true kindred spirit. He can give... More

Baan Kiri is a place where you can feel most welcome, a place to relax and feel comfortable. The atmosphere is serene and tranquil. The room decor is simple but classy. The surrounding garden is a nature oasis, where nature's sounds soothe the soul. There are no distractions and outside noise is minimal. The setting is just an added bonus... More

At first look, the rooms didn't seem to have all the conveniences I thought I wanted - i.e: fully equipped kitchen, flushing toilet, direct mountain view.....but than after walking through the magnificent gardens, hearing the sounds of surrounding nature, getting to meet a happy guest , and finally meeting Tom, the owner of Baan Kiri, is when I realized that... Baan Kiri is not just a place where you pay and sleep. Baan Kiri is a place where you can live and feel at home, even if you come only for a few nights. Here you relax, enjoy the beautiful garden, and whatever you want to do or see, just ask Tom, the host. He knows about literally everything, has... More

We were planning to stay here for 11 days, but we left in hurry after the second night. It was only 18 C in the room, because a portion of the window pane was missing, and it was raining since 2 days. Fortunately we had some warm clothes with us, since we left Europe in winter. My child slept in... More

When traveling in Thailand, I got an impression that a lot of people come to this amazing country and spend their time exposing the riches of this land. And for sure, it has to offer a lot - starting from food, nature, smiling people, beautiful girls, parties, architecture, etc. Thailand is so much touristic, that it takes you a big... More

On my third trip to Chiang Mai I had the pleasure to stay with Tom Light at Baan Kiri. If your looking for your typical tourist trap in the city, bright lights, souvenirs, and lots of noise, don't stay here. Bann Kiri is just outside of the city at the bottom of the mountain foothills, you can enjoy a quiet... More
