To be honest - it is not the cleanest place to stay, so if you or your travel companions have a problem with that, well then pick another place. Now the good part: The room rates are amazingly low. They increased only by 40 Bhat in the last 15 years; from 130 in October 2000 to 170 Bhat per night... More

We've stayed here on 2 separate occasions and managed to bag the same room both times. Staff are helpful and will give you a good deal if you're staying more than 1 night. The facilities are great, helpful at the travel desk, good food and drinks, WiFi excellent and bathroom very good. Everything is lovely and clean and although getting... More

We were offered a double room for 300 Baht and didn't expect much but received a room with en-suite, fan and 3 Windows (room 3c). Cleanliness was above average and free water and towels on arrival. We booked a 2 day trek here too via the GH travel desk which was very well priced and the same room was reserved... More

Daret's is OK to sit outside for a fruit chake or cheap snack but the road is busy. Travel Shoppe just a few doors away is a great agent for tickets dometic and international and will get you good prices. They issue most tickets themselves or issue eticket staright away so not like some of the swindlers running sham travel... More

Despite the gloomy and sluggish staff the rooms are really reasonably Priced. I paid 300bhat for a fan room with big double bed. There is a restaurant out front with surprisingly good food :) one of the best budget places i stayed at in cm. One drawback, they don't allow Thai guests in. I guess this means prozzies. But what... Myself and two other friends stayed in a triple room for three nights. The room was basic but clean, with fan and hot shower. The room also had a balcony, which was great for drinking beer and watching the street below. Free wi-fi also. The food at the restaurant was average, beers were cheap.

We did not stay at their motel but we have used their restaurant multiple times during our stay in chiangmai. It is hard enough to breath the vehicle exhaustion around here but having to eat your meal and someone smoke beside you, it just ruin your appetite. If you are looking for affordable food, clean, good meal, fast service and... More

In 2003 I came to teach at Chiang Mai University. Daret's, then the Travel Shoppe around the corner, got me hot for this mountain city. It's still a peaceful place, and this is a great place to get started. You'll be sorry to leave the most enjoyable spot in Thailand, but when you do, the Travel Shoppe's staff has excellent... More

Stir fry was tasteless with very little meat. A rare dissapointing meal in Chiang Mai. I used to come for Khao Soy but decided to try something else. Reminds me of food on a remote island where there are no options. Hope they are offering better flavors in other dishes.

When we arrived in Chiang Mai, we were very tired from the long trip. Fortunately, daret's house was real close and we decided to stay there. Who sketches our surprise when we checked the room and the cheerful lady told us the room was only 220 baht? And for that price you get a big bed (quite comfortable), fan and... More
